So I graduated with a mechanical engineering degree recently and took a job that I don't particularly care for because I don't do anything... at all. Cannot quite talk about my position, but I'm bored and looking to move somewhere else more scenic where I can build a log cabin and enjoy nature and my tacoma. I have been looking at government positions in the rocky mountains and in huntsville alabama. If yall have any suggestions for positions out west or a righteous sounding position else where I am open to suggestions. My end goal is to get hired by NASA but that wont be for a while.

    Thanks in advance!

Listen....why go to NASA when you can get in on the ground floor with the Space Force?

Just kidding. As a fellow young professional, I wish you the best of luck. Job searching sucks badly.

Were you hired and they don't really have the work to support you? or did you get hired somewhere with an immediate dead end for advancement.

I am graduating next spring in mechanical engineering and I have worked at a mechanical firm for the last 2+ years. I try and let them know when I would like to do more and tak on more responsibilities, this has worked great for me, sometime you have to chase the opportunity. my 2 cents, if I was content with what I was originally hired to do, idk if I would be where I am today, sometime you just have to ask and make it known you want more.

Its more of a security clearance issue. Since OPM is taking forever i have been shoved at a desk with nothing to do for 6 months. And it has killed my motivation to wanna stay here. its like I could wait it out and do things when the time is right but It does not change the bad taste sitting around for so long doing nothing has left in my mouth. I think I mostly want a fresh start, not sure If switching locations and doing the same job else were will renew my motivation or if i need a completely new change of pace. I think im just a little lost in time and space

If that's the case I would probably move on, its hard to sit idle. If you have the ability to easily move, why not try and experience someplace new.

If you want to work for NASA you should look at Areospace jobs. As an ME I’m assuming you are looking at some portion of aircraft design/manufacturing. We have a ton of Areospace jobs in the PNW. However we also have the hottest economy in the entire county by far so cost of living here is also not cheap. Consider checking out Blue Origin, Space X, Boeing etc.

By security clearence do you mean like government TS type of stuff? Because if so my follow up question is, are you currently in the process of getting a secret or TS clearance? If you are you really should consider the pros of staying atleased until you have the clearence. A TS clearance takes time and money.... a lot of money to get so a buisness getting you one will set you up GREATLY for future employment espically with NASA
