Thanks - I think I'll have to compress it a little to get it to fit over the spring seat. It looks like the spring will be compressed no more than it is on my 10" coilovers when on there with the tender spring. Do part store compressors work for 3" springs - I've heard someone say they don't?

    A thing or two...
I have a set of spring compressors that look like this:

They don't fit the springs on my King's. They won't go between the coils to latch on.

I'm thinking about buying this spring compressor to try out. https://www.amazon.com/Goplus-MacPherson-Interchangable-Compressor-Extractor/dp/B017H1AWMK
A saw mentioned somewhere on TW that people have used spring compressors like this one. https://www.amazon.com/OTC-6494-Clamshell-Spring-Compressor/dp/B0002SRHU6

I bought a clamshell style coil compressor from harbor freight for swapping coils on OEM bolt in Bilsteins on friends trucks and I hate it, had to cut it up and modify it to work and it still sucked.

Yeah I might just find a place to do it for cheap - or wait and see if anyone wants to trade 16's for my 14's. I'm guessing 550 lb 16" spring would be too light - too bad there's a guy selling a pair of Kings for $20.

There's a guy selling some for $100 - a little pricy imo. Does anyone know what the K6 stands for at the end of on if his spring specs printed on the spring?

You can use smaller ratchet straps for a little bit of compression, just keep the strap hooks on the outside and down by the shaft seat side so you can fit the coil over the body and then get the straps out easily.

Use the threaded coil retainer to preload the coil a little once it's on the shock to take the tension off the straps before you unlatch them.

    Lol you read my mind!

    IMG_9534.jpg

I was getting a little sketched out - it's hard to get enough pressure the way I was doing it and the hooks are a little too big to fit between the springs. I'll figure something out or I'll find a shop that's will do it for what I want to pay (like a nice 6 pack of soda lol).

Maybe I should try one more turn closer to the ends...

    Edit:

    That worked!

On my 8'' shocks 18'' coils get precompressed about 1.5'' unless you use flat lower perches. But that can cause binding on certain kits.

Im running 16x700s and love it.

I want to make a proper compressor either with a stock style Scissor jack or cheap hydraulic jack. Would just take a couple pins and some scrap steel to make one. I'll post pics when I do, but my current setup I can pry off the springs when unloaded

I'm thinking I might end up around 650-700 eventually - these 8" are to hold me over until I can fab mounts for the 10". @Anthony250 told me he is thinking of going up to 650 and he has a pretty wide kit. That might be where I end up since I'm 4wd but no cage like him.

Its color matched Line-x to the factory paint (1E7). I originally thought the line-x base was a cream color and they added the tint. But I have some spots on my rear bedsides that are 'peeling'. The line-x isnt peeling, its the color. It seems like they sprayed the color match after they applied a grey base. I thought it would have been mixed in before they sprayed.

It has held up great. I honestly want the rest of my truck done (Roof, Hood,Doors).

Found some 16x600 for $75, I'll get those for now. To get my spring seats off the 10" the ratchet strap method was cool, but I don't want to mess with it too much if you know what I mean lol.

That's my long range plan too - don't have to deal with scratches (or cleaning it if I pick a shade of brown lol)

I was thinking about using Monsta-Liner to do the entire truck myself. I want to order a sample to do my rear bumper to see how well it rolls on. My buddy did his Ram-charger Orange. It looks good. I have only seen pictures. I am not sure of the texture.

the geometry of your kit could be different lever ratio too so you might not need as high a spring rate. but i have no idea.

I'd probably spray it considering the high level of work you know how to do. Spraying is similar to welding, you keep an even speed, "arc length," and move in a straight line in a robotic fashion. Monstaliner sent me some samples. See what you think. Raptor liner is probably my first choice at the moment. It even comes with the gun. Here's a pic of @Anthony250's truck with similar bedside protection like yours with Raptor liner.

    Yea,
Good point. I have a buddy that sprays raptor liner at his house. I saw the last rig he did and the texture is a little much compared to my line-x. I know with line-x you can control the texture by how close you stand. I think it actually goes on smooth and then the final coat they stand back so the line-x has time to 'airate' before it hits the surface. Next time he sprays something, I will see if this is possible.

I'm pretty sure that technique has similar results with monstaliner and raptorliner.
