I was driving some pretty tight and winding 4x4 trails through dense woods, the type of situation that I imagine would completely confuse the pre-collision system. After about 20 minutes of this, the PCS off MIL light came on. This is the light that comes on when you manually turn off PCS through the multi-information display (MID). After driving around a bit more, went to the MID menu that allows you to turn of PCS, and it showed that the system was still on. So I turned it off, exited out of the menu, and the MIL was still on as one would expect. I then repeated the same exercise, turning the PCS system back on, exited out of the menu, and the MIL light didn't go off. At this point, I turned off the vehicle, waited a few seconds, and turned it back on again. After doing this, the MIL light was off.

For the rest of the time off road, I kept PCS turned off. However, once I got back on a conventional road, when I went into the MID and turned PCS back on, the MIL light remain on (PCS remained off). As I didn't want to stop and turn the vehicle off and on, I kept driving. A few minutes later, the light went off, and there hasn't been any issues since.

In case anyone is wondering, PCS still works currently on my vehicle. I have gotten the BRAKE! message a couple times from getting too close to vehicles in front of me since this all happened.

The only thing I can gather from all of this, is that if the computer gets confused by what the radar and camera is telling it, it just gives up and shuts the system off automatically, an it won't turn the system back on until the systems starts measuring/sensing a conventional roadway environment again.

So has anyone with a 2018 had this happen to them?

What a dumb component. Can’t even differentiate normal vs trail. I’m with @JoeCOVA, glad I don’t have that shit either.

At least we don't have to worry about gapping points and doing all the tuneup stuff. Change the oil, filter, rotate tires, drive on.

I just bought my truck and only have 1000 miles on it. I took it out the other day and put it into 4-low. I think the light you are talking about came on the dash. I think that it might automatically turn off when in 4-low.
