I took my taco in to the dealer yesterday. To fix my off center steering wheel. They centered it and gave me a print out of my current alignment specs. But it seems they didn’t do a new alignment just the wheel centering. My taco only. Has 4000 miles it’s a TRD OR 4x4 DCSB. It’s bone stock. It has seen Very mild off roading

Do I need a alignment or are these factory specs good? Anybody with knowledge would be greatly appreciated. So I can a get a alignment ASAP from a reputable shop. Don’t trust the dealer tbh.

At 4k miles that should be under warranty.

So I should go back and ask for a new alignment? I thought I did read somewhere under 12,000 I should get 1 free alignment. I was just surprised they didn’t do it yesterday while they centered the wheel smh. But my alignment is bad ? Since it’s in the red.

Another thing I should mention. I noticed I have a lotttt of wind noise on the highway from the driver side door seal. Anybody have that or is it normal?

That page shows the initial measurements. Is there another page showing measurements after any adjustment?

There is no other Page. I even asked her was that all. And she said yes. I’ll assume that’s my current alignment.

That Toe is way out spec, if that is final print out. Take it back, That front tire is going to wear fast with that toe.

Toe is one of the biggest problems for tire wear. I'd rank it a lot higher than camber, as camber being out will cause the inside or outside to wear, but toe will cause the entire service to wear heavily.

LOL. From the second the truck leaves the dealership's lot after purchase, alignment is no more under warranty than an empty gas tank.

    --

OP, your alignment is not "off" enough to cause any problems. I initially thought your caster was a tad higher than what stock specs call for, but on second thought, I think that spec is something like 1.7-2.4, so it's not a biggie. Even if it was a little off, not a problem. Lifted trucks (like mine) run much higher caster.

If you just asked them to center your steering wheel, then that's all they'll do. Alignment isn't necessary for that.

// edit - yes, fixing toe would be a good idea.

Mine was covered in 2013, so I don't see why yours wouldn't be.

Edit: I can admit I might be wrong and my dealership might not be a POS who actually covers it. Others may not.

Why was your steering wheel off center? Did you hit something? Definitely need to have that toe fixed. Right front tire is going to start cupping if you leave it like that. Will ruin the tire.

Sounds like you've got a very nice dealer that just did you a solid.

A single pothole on the street can throw off your vehicle's alignment. If I were a dealer, there's no way I'd cover that under any sort of warranty.

Just some quick googling shows most toyotas are covered 12k/1yr on wheel balance/alignment.

I will definitely take it back to get the alignment. Thanks guys to letting me know the toe out of spec big time. My steering wheel was off center I can only imagine was the cause of mild off roading. I haven’t hit any pot holes or anything rough.

I won’t be taking it back to that dealer. It’s a total shame that they clearly see its out of spec and in red. And didn’t align it. While they were already doing the steering wheel. They just wanted to save time... It’s no wonder the lady rushed me off when she gave me the paper. I’ll go to another local dealer. This is the reason some people swear by local INDY shops. Some dealers just don’t care for quality they just do the minimum. I’ll post up if the other dealer does the alignment

I had an alignment done twice at two different dealerships. The steering wheel wasn’t made centered. So they had to do an adjustment to make it aligned.

To center the steering wheel, you adjust both left and right tie-rods the same amount. The wheel moves and the alignment stays the same. You camber should be the same both left and right, and if it were me, I'd have slightly negative - minus .2-.3. Right now you're almost half a degree difference. The caster seems about right. You usually want slightly more on the right than the left to offset road crown and the toe is definitely off and will cause tire wear and possibly pulling as well. When I get my 911 aligned he always has to tweak the tie rods to center the wheel perfectly but you don't need to set up the entire alignment again to do that - if you know what you're doing. Personally, I try and get as much positive caster as I can as that helps to keep the vehicle going straight on the highway. I don't know how much these new trucks will take, but my old old 93 seems to max out at about 2.5 degrees positive while the Porsche likes to be at 6-6.5. I'm picking up new Tacoma in about a week and a half and the first stop is Baggs Alignment in Culver City. It'll be a buck and a quarter well spent. The dealer who did this correction for you should hide in shame. Even if you have to pay out of pocket for your own alignment, it's way cheaper than a new set of tires.
