I see all kinds of conflicting info out there. Has anyone ever rolled their Taco on the Interstate or a curvy backroad because they removed their sway bar? Is it really that dangerous to remove it? Seems the benefits off-road far outweigh the safety concerns. From another post:

"The anti sway bar helps to keep the two sides of the suspension from articulating in opposite directions. One side up, the other down. It limits off road articulation, but really helps on the road. Not so much on the Interstate, but alot on back roads in turns."

I might have an OEM sway bar for sale soon if anyone needs it. :)

The solution is simple. Remove yours and see if you like it and if you don't, put it back on.

It depends on if you have heavier springs than the OEM ones. If you're on a stock setup then no don't remove it because you will get a lot of body roll. With heavier springs I don't even notice it missing,

I'm sitting on OEM springs and Bilstein 5100's with a 2 inch above-coil spacer lift and 285s , so it sits pretty high. I already baby my Taco, if you ever get behind me...I'm sorry, it's not my 98 year old grandmother driving, it's just me driving my slow old ass safely in this lifted truck. Since I drive so slowly and safe all the time, I figured removing the sway bar would be ok for the added benefit of off-road performance. Was really just curious if anyone has done this mod, and have any horror stories to convince me not to do it.

Takes ten mins to remove it. If I’m going wheeling, I lose it. But most of the time I’m on the pavement, so I leave it on.

Not having looked at one of these closely, is it possible to just remove one endlink easily, then replace when you want the sway to function again?

This was/is common in the SCCA street classes, as sometimes no sway (rear particularly, if IRS, RWD) works better. Bar stays in place, just doesn't function.

887 coils on 5100's. 90% of the time I cant feel the difference without it on the road. 98% of the time CAN tell the difference off road.

Ride is better on road. Not transferring hard hits (ie potholes) from one side to the other.

    Better flex off road.

I've put the truck into a 4-wheel drift turn (avoiding accident) without serious body lean.

Mine is off. If I had the decision to make again, I'd have took it off SOONER.

In conjunction with your meatier springs though, correct?

Are the springs creating your lift, not preloaded on the upper perch points of the 5100s?

I switched from TRD OR coils to 887s. 5100s @ 0". I HATE preloading coils without adjustable rebound....ie....5100s. Not a huge difference in rate between OR coils and 887s....albeit some. Just went to 887s for lift only. Also have 1. Wider rims. 2. Plate bumper/winch/skids/sliders, which effect handling, ride hieght, and unsprung weight on front end.

None available for 2nd gens....not sure there's enough clearance....and I prefer the ride WITHOUT it.

    + Another 30 + lbs I can shave off.

Based on all my research, since I only have the economy-spacer-lift ...... allowing the front suspension to fully articulate is not yet a good thing until I upgrade the springs and shocks. I really want a long-travel IFS replacement upgrade, if I am going to spend any money on the front end that is where it will be.

It's a "stabilizer" or "anti-roll" bar, vehicles don't sway, they roll about a central axis...

I have 600# springs and no sway bar. I do feel body roll. There are some curvy roads that I do drive on and I try to push it to the limit. It feels fine. Honestly think if your going to roll it it will be slamming on breaks and swerve hard as possible to avoid something last min.
I do plan on upgrading to 650-700s when I get a bumper.

6" lift, Kings, 600# coils, about 500-600# of extras, no swaybar. Body rolls like a fat kid who loves cake.

Awareness of what the truck does/can do (lots of practice driving and swerving both on and off road), your surroundings, other cars, keeping a safe traveling distance and common sense. That's how I stay safe.

For me, the off road benefits outweigh the safety concerns for street driving because of how i drive.

I'd have to look at mine a little closer, but could you unbolt the ends, pivot them up and zip tie everything up out of the way? Then you wouldn't have to completely remove it to see how you like it, or for a weekend off-road trip.
