More then likely the tubes inside the radiator are getting restricted with buildup. New radiator will fix it.

Try the chemical flush before you change the radiator. Best case it solves your problem, and you save $100. Worst case you're out an adittional $10.

Fins can be straightened if you damaged too many of them but no reason to give yourself extra work.

Too late. Radiator ordered. For $100 it's approaching being a consumable part....lol

Hey everyone, I think I forgot to mention, While I've been waiting on my new radiator, I did take the radiator cap off and did a pressure test on it. The new one that is. It blew off pressure around 14.5 PSI and held at 13-14 PSI just like its suppose to. Held pressure for over 5 minutes until I took it off. I tested the old cap which failed badly and didn't hold any pressure. So, the old cap was bad... but if it was causing any issues, it was only a slight contributing factor. I then did the same test on my coolant system. Brought it up to just over 13 PSI and let it sit for between 5-10 minutes. The needle on the gauge did not move. I'm just kind of bored and killing time till I get my new rad. Cheers. oh and my old fan clutch was crap. It was pretty much always engaged, making my truck sound like a dumptruck. Truck is quieter now. Who knows, it might be running warmer now since the new fan isn't engaged all the time. I haven't seen a noticeable difference. It just sounds quieter. okay. off to work now.

Everyone. First off, thanks to all of you for your feedback and encouragement. Today I replaced my radiator. Problem solved. Before, I would drive like a complete granny with the heat on full blast and it was getting to where I could only take very short trips. With ambient temps on the rise, I would go a couple miles and my temps would be nearing 220. I never let it get over 220. Now, today with ambient temps in the low 90's, I ran it with the A/C on and was NOT driving like a granny. Temps stayed around 186-188 and never once got over 190. I was in traffic a bit, back roads and then highway speeds and it seemed to really like running at 186. This is just in time. Finally I can pull my boat. And this driving around in 90+ degree heat with my heat blasting in the truck has been serious bullshit. Thanks everyone. Happy 4th

Also, this thread has been my first experience with posting on TW. I should have been on here ages ago. Now that I know what a great crowd you guys are, I'm sure I'll be around more.

it's almost Fourth of July 2023 I've just gone through the exact same thing with my 1997 Toyota Tacoma 2.4 L changed everything except the radiator and upper lower hoses.
thing is temp will be retun to mid range at idle , and well driving on long flat roads but anytime I drive uphill Even for one minute Temp will rise to just below red zone on the gauge , park in the driveway allow it to Set at idle Two minutes and temp returns to mid range driving on flat is fine just when you're pulling a hill it goes up.
no combustion gases in cooling system performed the "blue Miller highlife test"it passed .
need to order a radiator can anybody recommend the best one my truck has over 200,000 miles on it and I do not want to dump any more money and I have to.
also radiator seems to drain really slowly when valve is open, And seems to feel really slowly when adding coolant to the empty radiator......
New water pump ,New clutch fan,new thermostat (Jiggle valve 12 o'clock )new Radiator cap , accomplished Preston cooling system flush( idle for three hours at mid temp with flush Liquid installed ) Found a little rust in the radiator.... No chunks , refilled with "Barbie blood coolant"Burped system.
Once again I think my last hope is new radiator and upper and lower radiator hoses .Any input?
