I got a letter in the mail correcting my mpg for my 2017 to 1 less mpg hwy.
Granted, I have a manual with a shorter axle ratio.
I have only touched EPA mpg once, with a tail wind doing 70 in 6th. I notice this truck gets better city mpg lots of times vs hwy. Once you pass about 75 mph, it all goes to sh!t and I get into the 16s, all Stock.
It has improved over time maybe because of breaking in?

I consistently get close to the EPA estimate on my truck driving 65-70 on the highway. I do notice the wind has a large impact on how the truck drives, but my last car was a 2012 Taurus so I guess that's to be expected when compared to a car.

I do 50/50 city highway. I average about 17-18mpg. But I have a lead foot and ovtune.

I have driven several Honda Ridgelines(new model) and they all get better than the sticker. I drove one on a 100 mile trip and it got over 28 mpg! Awesome. Another, that I drove for 250 miles or so got around 26 mpg. Not bad at all. The trick is: Keep the speed limit under 70 mph, of course, no one does that, thus low mpgs from most folks.

The EPA adjusted their calculation methods a few years ago. They even went retro and showed the original numbers and the recalculated numbers on vehicles tested previously.

When they did that, my vehicles became spot on. I'd always previously lagged behind.

This is somewhat meaningful, because I have recorded every drop of fuel in every vehicle I've owned for years. Manually. Well, in Excel. Then I average out a given calendar year, then a 'lifetime' average.

Longest current ownership is an '04 bought new. At 124k, still averages out to the adjusted EPA numbers.

Yea, everyone will have variances due to multiple conditions. But for average use/mix, the EPA numbers are at least good enough to compare across vehicles, if you are looking for MPG ratings.

Ok thanks. Ya I get it. So people don’t monitor this as closely as other or maybe I should say as meticulously but I have heard both yes and no on improvements as the vehicle breaks in whether that’s 500 miles or 5,000 and that’s really subject due to too many factors but I will chime in as time passes

The only vehicle to ever truly beat MPG estimates is a Volkswagen TDI.... i regularly get 47MPGs mixed on a 2015.... sticker didn’t come close to that lol

How is everyone getting such bad mpg? TRD Offroad 4x4 double cab manual 87 octance and the worst tank I've had was 21 mpg average since I got it (now at 2600 miles). Last tank was 22.7 mpg hand calculated which was spot on to the computer. I'm happy as it's nearly the same mileage as my old 2nd gen 2.7 5 speed.

I drive in a hilly area. My tank average over the first 4k miles is 17.4 - 17.5 mpg. That's hilly highways and town driving. We'll see if it improves over time like the other guys are saying.

Its getting bad, Im almost broke.
Its relative to where you live. I live at high altitude, mountains and steep inclines everywhere. Even going into town has a mild elevation gain of 50’. Where do you live?

Driving style, winter fuel/summer fuel, road conditions, tires, and accessories all determine fuel mileage. I've never owned any vehicle that wouldn't match the window sticker under the right conditions. In rare cases I've done better, and I've gotten a lot worse. You just have to drive it the same way they tested it. No one is being dishonest. Looking long term I've always found the EPA sticker to be pretty close.

Due to driving style, local geography, and accessories they add to their trucks some of us may never reach the EPA numbers. Or even come close. But that doesn't mean it won't do it.

Flat Florida here, I have only filled up twice so far but have a 19.1 average on both tanks (hand calculated) small city driving. Hopefully she'll get 1-1.5mpg more as she gets broken-in. Only 750 miles on her now.

I don't know I've had a 16 and 17 now. The 16 was a DCLB SR5 4WD and got 18-21 consistently stock, my 17 DCSB OR 4WD gets consistent 19-24, then again I live in AZ now rather than NJ and feel this engine prefers warmer temps. I've always used 87. It also wasn't till 5-7k in that the MPG got better after break in. For a mid size truck I'm not complaining. My 2nd gens were 16-19 mpg no matter what. Looks like your truck is new I'd give it sometime I bet it gets better after 5k.

As already stated, where you live and how you drive will greatly affect your MPGs. For me, living in fairly flat North Texas @ about 600 ft elevation , I consistently get better then the EPA published numbers. Average tank full runs around 21-22 mpg (manually calculated and almost identical to computer) with 95% city/suburban driving and 5% freeway. Freeway trips I can get close to 28 mpg if I'm not fighting a head wind or going over 70 mph. This is a big improvement over the 2012 I had where it was closer to 18-19 combined.

That is interesting, I wonder how many were mismarked like that? My sticker says 17 city 20 highway but has always done better than that.
