Paint looks great. Metal surface prep on the other hand, leaves something to be desired.

    Is your post sarcastic?

Agreed. Its the prep. Should have hit it with a grinder/ sander for 30 seconds.

A bit OCD if you ask me, no one will ever see it and you would have to really look for it to even find it.

Would think that if you pay $800 for something it be done better than that.

Your money, your bumper; you are entitled to be particular however I don't think you will get much sympathy here for something that is exceptionally petty. Thats a 1.5"x1.5" patch under an overhang next to Shackle lug.

EDIT: $800 is a good deal, most steel rear bumpers go for $1000+ these days

Congratz on the new bumper and welcome to Tacomaworld

I'd expect better attention to detail, but I'm a fabricator.

If this had been factory from Toyota all hell would have broke loose in here and everyone would be running outside to look at their bumper.

this is literally no different than people bitching about surface rust appearing on their leaf springs and drive shafts...much ado about nothing.

hell, the first time you wheel that rig, its gonna get scratched and dinged up much worse than what OP shows.

honestly, if it really bothers you....about 5 minutes with some sand paper and a can of spray paint would have it fixed....the time you spent moaning about it, you could have had it fixed already.

hell, the only way you see it is if you crawl under the rig to look for it.......its a non-issue really.

The problem is that when paying that kind of money, you're paying for time and effort. When you're not getting proper time and effort put into the piece that there are visible defects, you're not getting your money's worth.

Whether or not you bang it up first time out will be up to you. You shouldn't accept defective merchandise at full price just because you are about to bang it up.

I personally would not consider the highlighted area a true 'defect'. If the welds were cracked or sloppy, that would be a defect. Or if they had forgotten to pain/coat the indicated section, that would be a defect.

Just my $.02. Others may disagree.

I think it’s funny at people saying “well when I spend that type of money” when in reality, that’s not that expensive for a rear bumper. $800 shipped and powder coated? That’s around $1,200 from a typical fab shop that sells Tacoma armor. It’s all relative.

OP, have you reached out to Fab Fours? I’d be interested to see what they say regarding the quality.

Not sure why people are defending an oversight in quality. Their home page write up would have me expecting nothing less than perfection.

Because it’s not necessarily an oversight, but more a case of you get what you pay for. Plus that’s a very hidden spot that literally no one would ever notice.

Fair enough. I work with metal every day, I see things a bit differently I suppose.
