Anything welding

I have one to rough cut material to length and then the cut off wheel on the grinder takes over.

 

for that amount of money, go to harbor freight and get their small or big band saw. I have their big one and it cuts straight, Is quite, and minimal mess.

 

I got the big Grizzly GO614 swivel bandsaw and would not be without it.

 

No chop saw for me...Ever. Noisy and too many sparks. I love my portable band saw.

I just recently saw this vid for the conversion of the HF band saw to a base model saw. Color me impressed.

 

Whipped this up this morning.

One of our family members just bought in town and can have small, back yard fires as long as there is a way to control fly away sparks. They are cheap to build and people seem to like them.

The top doubles as a grill as well.

 

We have one ☝️ f these at work. It has been a good cutter and very dependable. If I may suggest, a wonderful addition would be a Makita 7 1/2” , I think, metal skill saw or a Milwaukee 9” skill saw. The Makita is kinda light duty but i’ve Been cutting steel an inch thick with it and 1/2” regularly

 

Frame boxing with bed on, not the most comfortable/easiest way.

 

No clue, Craig. I figure if the city ordinance has a spec for hole size, our Barney Fife's wouldn't be able to measure the size.

Which is more popular for fabricating bed racks & such, mig or tig?

 

My guess would be mig but that’s just my preference

 

I am starting to love tig once you get the hang man it is fun

 

Aluminum was tough for me still i have mo problem laying practice beads but i burnt through my ic piping so many times

Stainless on the other hand is easy peasy

I started fabing a bumper / winch mount today. I’m mimicking the trail gear bumper mount and including a winch plate.

Here is the trail gear for reference.

I started w a rectangle then used a cutoff wheel to score lines and make a few hand bends.

The steel is pitted all over the place. I think it will be fine, but correct me if I’m wrong. Any thoughts on further rust removal on uneven surfaces?

It really comes down to the one you like best if your proficient at them both

Tig is not so forgiving in your prep work it has to be squeaky clean.

Then I know Tig welders that if you ask them to weld out of position you get that 1000 yard stare

Then the material to be welded comes into play

All the joints able to be welded on the table in the flat position ??

 

That is technically incorrect.
All processes are a way of fusing two pieces of metal together with a filler metal. If done properly, no one way is stronger than another(tensile strength of filler metal nonwithstanding).

The Tig guys need 2 helpers to do a field weld. The MIG guy is by himself and is done and having a cigarette before the Tig guy is set up.

Of course no situation is similar and I'm making light if the 2 different styles. Most cases you won't have the choice. The pipe specs will call first what welding type is required.
