Helping "Hiker Heaven" in Agua Dulce, using the Taco to transport Pacific Crest Trail hikers back and forth; to Agua Dulce restaurants for meals, for resupplying (buying hiking supplies), and to the trail head so they could continuing hiking north to Canada on the trail head.
Over 600 Hikers carried in my truck from downtown Agua Dulce to Hiker Heaven (rest stop on the trail), and back to town.
Nine courtesy rides back and forth each day; one mile each way, eighteen miles total per day, around 540 miles total.
Four weeks of volunteer driving total.
Unless someone else hikes in, this morning was probably my last group to transport up to the trail head. (The photo.)
All of you were good for our town, and we were happy to be able to help you during your stay with us.
And I met "Brazil Nut" (Most hikers have hiking names), who is on her way to doing a "Triple, Triple"; which means she will have hiked all three trials north, three times each, when she completes it.
God speed, and fair winds behind all of you during the rest of your hike to Canada.

pretty cool man. Not to be a downer though, but I'd get the oil changed ASAP. 1 mile start and stop drives can't be great for the engine. You only did it for a few weeks so prob ok, but I'd change out the oil anyway and start fresh if it were me

Ok, I'll be the first. If they are hikers, why can't they hike their way to town and back? If it's only 2 miles round trip. Must be a pretty easy trail their hiking, the way they are dressed.

Great for you though, doing volunteer work.

Because it is a courtesy to the hikers. The Pacific Crest trail winds along the Pacific Mountain ranges and is 2650 miles long; they appreciate the occasional break to rest at a way station.
The way station rest stops are placed at distances along that 2650 mile trail, but are not always on the actual trail; and all the way stations are manned by volunteers, on their own time and money.

The lady hiker I mentioned is hiking all three south to north trails, and is doing that three times; which will be the distance of almost all the way around the world by the time she finishes hiking.

It's like any other loved hobby or sport; if you dont do the hobby or sport, you may never understand the commitment to doing it; and they frankly need a break, from time to time, especially if they are new to hiking the full 2650 miles trail from south to north.

The volunteer rest stops are also for safety; essentially for new hikers, who may not know what they are getting into.
Lat year I just happened to be at the Sweetwater Farms grocery store in town, when two Canadian hikers came into town; and neither had planned well for desert hiking.
Both had only about a pint of water each, while hiking the desert in daytime. Anyone with survival training, or military desert training, will know what I mean by that.
My very accurate La Crosse electronic weather gauge was at 1% humidity (As low as it will read), and at 106.5 degrees Fahrenheit when both happened to hike in while I was there.
Both greatly appreciated the courtesy of my being there; and really appreciated the ride to the way station, where the very experienced person there could take care of them
Basically it's a courtesy; and they all bring a great deal of summer business to our little town as they come through it.

Thanks, appreciate the tip; I use synthetic oil for that reason. Have seen a engine, using synthetic oil, opened up after 100,000 miles of that kind of driving, and it looked brand new inside.
Have used synthetic in all my vehicles, ever since my first vehicle, for that reason. And I do change it regularly, before it actually needs changing by time or driving style.

Can understand the problem your daughter had; new inexperienced hikers often have foot problems by the time they get to Agua Dulce.
The lady who runs Hiker Heaven has two medical kits outside the door of a trailer on the property; and the foot medical kit is twice the size of the regular medical kit.
