Tesla Truck

The most recent Peterson's 4wheel & Off-Road Magazine (March 2018) has a great article titled "The Future of 4X4s: Diesel, Electric, Hybrid?". This stuff isn't coming, it's already here.

 

The HP and torque numbers are going to be insane! They already are in existing Tesla models, but this "gamechanging feature" that Musk references should blow those numbers away.

 

Expect it in 2030. Still working on being able to produce the 3, then the speedster, then the y, then the truck.

 

Wonder how many smiles I’ll have gotten out of my MY13 by then...

 

Expect it much sooner than that. Have you seen Tesla's stock value lately? Once they figure out their production woes they'll be rolling out all models at a rapid pace. Only a mater of time.

 

Marketing is one thing, production is another. They still cant meet production on the Model 3 while spending like crazy on future vehicles and sending Roadsters into space.

My main concern with electric vehicles has been their max range. Offering a 180 kWh pack netting at least 400 miles in a TRUCK is progress.

 

Yeah that's pretty slick. And it looks way better than that hideous Bollinger posted earlier.

I know it's a prototype, but they are pretty far down the road with it and claim it's nearly identical to the planned production model. I'm not a fan of the weird headlights, but ugly is a secondary consideration for me after performance and utility. Current pricing is estimated to start at $68k. That's a lot, but you will get some sort of tax credit regardless of what idiot is leading the government, and drastically reduced maintenance costs should also be considered. You have to pay to charge it, so "fuel" isn't free unless you go with a stand-alone renewable charging set-up (solar, wind, etc.), but is will still be cheaper than gas. And what does a new gas truck cost now? You can get to $68k pretty easy in the current full-size market, and the mid-sized trucks aren't far behind.

 

Yeah, a link to the Rivian stuff is like 4 posts above yours in the thread, but it's nice to have the data laid out. I also don't mind the front end that much. I mean, cmon, people think the FJ Cruiser looks good, so what's the problem here?

I'd do an electric truck if I could get dual batteries and 800 miles of range.

 

I've read somewhere that a secondary battery pack will be an optional accessory. Not sure if it would be a flat-pack bed configuration, or in the gear tunnel.

 

RAV4 hybrid has an electric motor on each rear wheel for 4wd.

It's shit.

 

Change is hard, but it happens regardless.
