Ya, I also think its humidity related as well. Has to be right conditions for mine but it happens. My wife even scolded me once saying 'if you keep that up I'm taking away your toys'

Now, I did however grind momentarily going 3rd to 4th other day...fucking lazy fucking fuck. That was my quote to myself, she laffed at me.

Women, can be so cruel, or is it just Scorpios?

    lol. funny guy!

i had it x rayed and lucky for me it's not broken. the pain was just other worldly, but I'm past that now -- and can drive -- as long as I'm keeping my posture right.

and then 3 days later i got my 3rd baby. she's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Ivy Kataryna, June 20 6lbs15oz 20.5"...
so I'm doing just fine. thanks for checking in. :)

My '14 does this on occasion. It comes and goes. Just push in the clutch and go at it again. Vehicles with manual transmissions have personalities. Some are grumpy, some aren't. Every one I've had came with different quirks.

Sounds like a typical manual transmission. Embrace the challenge of driving to your destination. Every manual I’ve driven has been unique. It forces you to get “in tune” with the machine and work as one, Daniel Son.

Just rolled 3500 miles and I still can't get used to the damn 1st to 2nd shift. I either need to ride 1st up to like 5000 RPM or slip the clutch for like 2 seconds going into 2nd from a normal RPM to not make the truck bounce around like I just learned to drive. My 15 year old Jeep shifts smoother. Maybe I just need some more clutch material to wear away, lol.

It's just geared low. I would not hit 5000 RPMs regularly, it stresses the clutch out for no reason. I typically shift at like 2,500 - 3,500 rpms from 1st to 2nd. Do you need to get going really fast quickly or are you towing something?

Is that a 3rd gen issue? Some times if I rolling will do a 2nd gear take off. With new promotion am thinking about looking for a 18 offroad access cab 6mt.

I do the same with my 18. The truck has no problem getting going in second with a slight roll

rev to 2500 rpm and wait about 2 seconds and then shift. Re-engage clutch smoothly around 1100-1300rpm for 2nd gear.

You will have to look in Canada for an Off Road AC Manual.

Just wanted to check in, been stalking this thread (although been posting in other areas) since I bought my 2017 6MT. Thank you all for the tips and tricks. Not really much to add except, that I have loved my Manual in my Taco...its not perfect but its great for me...
    my experiences so far:
2017 6MT Tacoma Sport. Very happy with it. The 1st and 2nd gear ratios are an odd match and take some getting used to while shifting. But the overall tranny has been great for my needs ~12,000 miles so far.

I have run heavily loaded with mulch in 2wd and 4HI no problem. Towed and launched my boat (16ft Sylvan) without issue from Pittsburgh to Erie many times, literally well over a thousand miles with how many times i have done it (actually more like 2 as i think about it more). My boat and trailer is under 2500 lbs, though the bed is usually full of stuff ~500 lbs. Now towing my uncle's larger boat (crestliner 2160) is more of an issue, it is around 5000 lbs (according to him, I do not think it is that heavy) with the motors and trailer and all his gear in it. The tacoma still pulls it better than my old ridgeline 2006 and old pilot 2011 did. Just have to think ahead for braking, his trailer and mine both do not have brakes. Now his Ecoboost F150 does tow his boat better, obviously.

Also as expected gas mileage does suffer while towing, but I mean you are towing a boat...it suffers whether its my Tacoma or his F150, each has its strengths.

Some have complained about the gear ratio in reverse, especially when towing. I have not had any issues, just have to remember to go easy.

The Reverse complaints arise mostly when having to back up a hill.

    Welcome!
My MT experience is similar to yours. I've come to the conclusion that I need a brake controller and trailer brakes for > 3000 lbs. or so. Also I've started dropping into 4L when backing a trailer. It's no big deal, even on pavement if you're not turning hard, and it sure is easier on the old clutch. The first time I backed a trailer, I "broke in" my clutch nicely. I figure I just turned down all the factory flashing. It smelled pretty bad.

Glad you're enjoying your truck. I sure love mine.

Have you had to reverse up a hill while towing? I've had issues with power when backing up a trailer in my driveway which is at an incline.

Manuals I love. My first truck was a used 1983 Toyota sr5. As I get older it is nice not to change gears so I can change my depends while driving on interstate. I have a need for both . :)

so i've replied a couple times in here but learned something new in the last couple of days... when i start from a stop i start from 1st to 2nd and change at 2500 then shift a little faster than i normally would ( think quick shifting) then from 2nd to 3rd i change at 3000 and change about the same speed ( quick shift) from 3rd through 6th i shift at normal speed between 2500 and 3000 but try not to let the RPM's fall below 2000 and it has helped me drive like i have been driving for more than a day.. i've been driving MT's for almost 20 yrs and everyday with this truck is a learning experience... LOl i still laugh when i make it bounce like a retard on trampoline but oh well i try to make it a smooth ride no matter what...to those who have it down consistently and proficiently good job, to those who still struggle, i feel your pain
