Does anyone know what the distance between the upper and lower shocks mounts is at full compression on a first generation Tacoma?

The stock rear shocks are really short, and only have 6.6" travel rear travel from the factory.

We commonly put 2.0 x 10's in the rear with a shock relocation.

Note that the two sides have different amounts of travel:
    Approximate OEM Dimensions (Left Side):
    Compressed Length 12.875"
    Extended Length 19.500"
    Travel Length 6.625"

Kind of a hard answer to question haha. This all changes depending on what leafs you're running and where your bumpstop is. I made a whole thread on relocating shocks that might help you at least get an understanding of whats involved to measure your travel...

Thx guys. I'm limited on shop space and time I can use it. I have an 03 that I put Alcan springs on (1.5" lift). They rock. They are significantly thicker, thus likely reducing my up travel a little. I was running my worn out bilstein 5100s for a couple months but recently put King 2.5 resi's on the rear. Needless to say I'm a bit disappointed with the Kings. They are advertised as working with up to 1.5" lift. That is BS. The Kings are short about 2", meaning that I'm losing 2" of droop travel. Lame. In addition, I feel like they are a bit stiff. I know they probably need to be broken in a bit, but I'm thinking about just replacing them with another set of bilsteins. I was hoping that I could just make some shock mounts that would allow these shocks to droop out more (raising the lower mount). I was just curious if I could get away with eyeballing the mounts and not have to take the leafs apart and cycle everything. I've seen a pic on TW somewhere where a guy did this. He had the same shocks and his mounts were super high, like almost on top of the axle. I bet I could get away with it due to the fact that the Kings are so short. Anyway.....
Speedytech- I appreciate your work on your shock mounts, but the reason that all factory trucks have staggered shocks is to reduce axle wrap. Another way to reduce axle wrap is to go spring under (my first choice but due to shop restraints, not an option). Does your truck suffer from axle wrap?

I was thinking something simple like this.

Is that still using the stock upper mount?

Not even slightly, I don't have floppy stock springs though and these shocks have a pretty high nitrogen charge, either way they aren't going to allow much rotation very fast. The factory shocks may reduce axle wrap like that but they're also pretty weak. So far I've only seen Toyotas do staggered shocks, most of the big 3 do em both on one side. My truck rides a lot nice than a stock truck, I have some hilarious footage of my old shocks and springs wrapping up a lot but they were 19 years old.

Yes looks like it to me also, but you wouldn't gain any more travel from stock location. The new bottom shock mount is actually higher that the factory lower mount

You would gain droop, but up travel would remain the same.
