Bare Camper Shell, Roof Rack Suggestions

I have a bare camper shell (it doesn't have tracks or anything) and I want to put on a basic two-bar rack system on the shell to tie down surfboards and whatnot. Any suggestions on an easy system to mount, preferably one that doesn't involve drilling if possible.

Yep, check that forum and the only way you're going to get a rack without drilling the shell is to mount one that goes around the shell and that presents problems of it's own.

The Yakima, Thule, Rhinorack, etc. tracks are easy to install but do require drilling; plenty of threads on them if you search.

 

If its only surfboards, why not use a strap on temporary rack? No looks, but no holes either.

I just installed thule tracks and rack on my Leer. Pretty straightforward. I spent about $180 in total shopping around.

 

It seems like tracks with some drilling is the way to go!

 

you're right. strap-ons are nothing to fool with!

The last truck I had I got the tracks from Upull & Pay, Junk Yard, they were like $15 for the set, just get some long enough for your camper shell.

The ones I got on my camper shell now were $150 installed at the SnugTop factory.

 

I have a vantech J1000 72 inch on my truck (drilling required) that was somewhere around $175. Install was a breeze.

 

Yakima tracks. If you are not comfortable about drilling it yourself you could take it to a dealer that sales toppers and have them do it. Most dealers offer the racks as an aftermarket item and install these things on a regular basis.

 

Also check your local outdoor/bike shops, some of them do installations as well.
