I've had it for a while. My A/C gets quite cold. I have zero scientific evidence if it helps. I did no before and after temperature readings. Just figured it couldn't hurt.

Perhaps someone with expertise in this field could either chime in or do a true experiment on it.

But personally, I think it helps some.

For the 2015 Tacoma - mentioned in another thread. Does Toyota believe this problem is limited to 2015 models and would this work on other 2nd Gen models?
Many 2015 owners are out of luck as many have passed the 36K mileage mark or their purchase date is > 3 yrs.

When it’s hot outside is there a reason why Tacoma’s AC is colder using outside air instead if recirculate?

Even my 2018 4Runner does this.

The reason why the rolled a TSB out for 2015's only was because some of them are still affected by time/ mileage warranties in place by Toyota, so they have to acknowledge common complaints they have been receiving about them, even if they will not consider them being issues covered under warranty they will at least roll out a fix for the highlighted complaints.

Because AC systems are designed to convert heat into cool air. An AC system cannot make colder air from a source that is already cold.

That's not the case with the Toyotas in our family. The vent temp is definitely lower on on MAX A/C (recirculation mode).

If the vehicle has been sitting in the sun with the windows up, it's likely that the inside air temp is much warmer than the outside air. So perhaps having it on the MAX setting feels warmer until the interior temperature comes down.

My rig sits for hours outside when I'm at work. My routine works pretty well for me.

Start the vehicle, roll down all 4 windows, set A/C to fresh air, high fan speed (non MAX) to help push warm air out of the cabin and vents. I'll drive this way for a minute or so. If it's not too hot, I'll roll up the windows leave it on normal A/C, eventually bringing the fan down to the 3rd setting after a few minutes to slow the air down as it passes over the coils.

But on really hot days, I set it to MAX.

These are typically the steps I take as well because I, like you, are in a very similar situation.

Nice. Are they just switched so you turn them on anytime?

I wonder if they actually impede air flow when not on?

It's a little sloppy at the end of the compressor side. Hard to get at it.

Sure mine does too, as long as it doesn't get hotter than 75 F
