Anyone have experience with fitting a hard tonneau for a 1st gen onto a 3rd gen? Found one for a great deal and considering seeing if a hard tonneau fits my needs and upgrading down the road if so. Don’t have much detail on the specifics of the cover but seller says he had it on an ‘03 double cab short bed. I own a ‘17 double cab short bed.

Were there significant changes between the bed box size, shape or rail locations?

Thinking it might be worth the drive for a test fit. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like the beds differ slightly in length.

Based on my personal experience of trying to use different generation covers on the 3rd Gen, they will differ just slightly enough to effect usability. I tried to use a 2nd Gen cover and it ended up being just a hair long for the tailgate and would pop up every time the tailgate closed.

Thank you! Very helpful. Seems like it may be more troubles than it’s worth. I would definitely want it to be fully functional.
