In the little I know about torque and bolt size, specs are usually listed by shank size and thread type. In that case both of them would receive the same torque - but I know next to nothing about this stuff from real life experience

You'd be right in total torque capable, something else must be the limiting factor here. Maybe the washers load distributing factor or its effect on clamping friction.

I'm a home shop hobby machinist (metal). In the Machinery's Handbook all those specs are listed but whatever. I'm not a torque nazi. Pro mechanics aren't either. Yeah there will be those who talk shit about not torquing this & that & say you have to torque everything. When you work on cars for a living you get a feel for what's tight enough.

When I worked on cars for living you don't have time to torque everything nor is it necessary. But yes there are cetain things that you do NEED to torque properly, like head bolts, crankshaft caps, camshaft caps, connecting rods. I worked on mosty smaller engines though, mostly Japanese imports. Wheels too but in many cases not absolutely necessary if you know what your doing. I never torqued crank bolts or axle nuts or even water pumps.

Crank bolts we used a 3/4" impact to get em off when all else failed. 1/2" impact to put em back on unless it was a crank bolt that required some crazy amount of torque. But I did torque my crank bolt & water pump this time.

I've seen what you're talking about - one of my favorite mechanics on youtube is Eric O of South Main Auto. He has a running gag of torquing things to spec with his impact, but like you said, when things are super important, he torques them. I'm getting a feel for things still and tend to play it on the safe side of always trying to have a torque spec for everything, even if it's a generic value to get some good instincts when it comes to what tightness should feel like for what size bolts.

My Icon Coilovers had about seven years of use and thousands of miles so I decided I would have them rebuilt before I put them into the truck. I had all the seals replaced, and both recharged with fresh oil.

I went to Rock & Road Performance in Loomis, California outside Sacramento and Greg and his team did a great job on them.

One of the coilovers had crushed threads on the body from an adjusting wrench, and prevented the preload from being adjusted. They chased the threads on both bodies and didn’t even charge me extra to fix it.

Couldn’t be happier. He has a pretty nice shop. There was this custom built desert runner that they built from scratch. They broke two front axles joints on their last run. Totally don’t remember the correct terminology, I don’t know that much about solid axles.

Also a PT Cruiser cut exactly in half for some reason. Apparently it’s going to become exercise equipment.

He had a pretty janky lift on his Jeep. Apparently he welded square tubing on his frame to lift the whole thing up a couple inches, and weld the suspension perches to that when he was 16. Wish I got a picture of that. It’s there on the lift.

They have all sorts of goodies. I still need to get some orbital joints from them.

I just don't know what I want lol. I'm tempted to just get some recovery gear or jerry cans. I shall keep digging and adding to my potential list of stuff

I took your recommendation and went down there. It’s a good two and half hour drive from where I live, but I was on my way to Tahoe to pick up my bed so I made a trip out of it.

Greg is a super bang up guy. He waited for me before he closed up shop early for the holiday since I was on my way back so I wouldn’t have to make another trip.

Looking forward to putting these on the truck.

As far as crank bolts, Im going to replace mine as it is a torque to yeild bolt and should be replaced. That was told to me from a certified toyota tech. Even @Timmah! mentions it in his video. Does that mean you can reuse it and not have problems, probably. Is it worth the risk, IMO no, its a $12 part. But this is a debate that deals w personal opinions. Id say leave it up to the user if you want to replace it or not.

Lathered my shackle bushings up with grease. Stupid thing still squeaks when you push down on it, albeit not as bad. Thats as far as I'm going, I really dont wanna tear into my leaf pack to regrease that. Next up for today is trimming my passenger side pinch weld as my rock sliders are rubbing and making a horrendous noise over bumps and turns.

We use the napa calipers at work instead of getting people the factory toyota ones (like 1/4 the price lol). they seem to hold up fine. the paint also seems to hold up great
