Took my truck in for free first three oil changes and found out from my State Farm rep. that my monthly insurance premium would be increasing by $20 because my mileage info was reported to them by Toyota. I guess I'm on course to drive more miles than I originally thought on an annualized basis?!

    1. F you, Toyota! That's some big brother shit right there.
    2. F you, State Farm. I haven't had the truck a full year yet. You're going to assume my mileage will be more than I stated based on a few months of driving?
    3. Makes me wonder what else they know... Driving off-road? Speeding? Doing your own maintenance? Tuning?

Land of the free, y'all. These corporations are going to be the death of us all if we don't put a check on them.

Any of this BS happening to anyone else? If not, I'm switching insurance carriers.

Damn dude! That is some big brother all seeing corporate money grubbing right there! I would switch and start doing your own maintenance ASAP... USAA is the deal. Never had an issue with them.

I can't figure out what the Toyota dealer or Toyota Corporate would have to gain from reporting your annual mileage to your insurance company though...?

So you're mad that you weren't able to lie to your insurance company, who charges based on mileage? Lol okay. Are you going to complain when they find out you've been drinking too?

I'm guessing Toyota gets a kickback from the ins. co. and it helps pay for those initial "free" services.

If I were an insurance company that could now legally charge you more a month based off reliable information from a credible source (the Toyota dealership) I'd give the dealership a kick back for that information all day long.

Yes. So they found our your actual mileage. Be mad if it wasn't your actual mileage. Or just get a different insurance company..

I'm honestly blown away that people don't know that this is publically provided information. Have you never looked at a car fax? Every dealership, mechanic, or body shop you go to provided this information openly. It prevents people from selling lemons, damaged/totaled cars and rebuilt engines.

Without this open information everyone would roll back their odometer and the buyer would be none the wiser.

I think it is the principle of the thing. You don't expect Toyota to be sending your data to anyone. I get people saying you shouldn't be mad that you can't lie. . . . but State Farm or any other insurer can mandate an odometer inspection. I would be for that if you know about it or go elsewhere. I don't think Toyota should be selling this data without my permission. Insurance accuracy is the insurer's problem and should not be based on a breach of my reasonable privacy expectations at a Toyota dealership.

My 2017 Tacoma maintenance record is shared to CarFax after my first oil change at Toyota. I receive a reminder from CarFax for an oil change when it is near. I have a new Honda Odyssey and I get it serviced at Honda and never receive a reminder from CarFax. Guess Toyota is selling our information to 3rd party.

I have used a couple of different carriers in the last 5 years. It always pays to shop around, as the same coverage can sometimes be had for less at other places, especially if you have a clean record.

That said, I claim a 'low mileage' discount on the Tacoma. I think with the current carrier that is 8k per year max. At renewal every year I have to report my current ODO, and *occasionally* they'll ask that I swing by an office an let them validate.

I don't ask for this discount on my '04, because I'd never be under the threshold. And they never ask to see my odo either.

Nobody reports anything on my vehicles, unless Toyota posts up something based on recall/service campaign work. I know for certain the mechanic I use when I need help beyond my skill/tool set/time doesn't report anything to anyone. And Fl has no inspections. So all CarFax will ever show is reported ODO at sale transaction time.

I even had body work done to fix a boo boo. The shop doesn't report to CarFax (or anyone else), but the insurance Co. would have record if a claim were filed. It wasn't.

No one reports 'to' CarFax' anyway. It's a web bot that crawls public records. Thus why it's dicey on accuracy. Because there is no QC on public records.

    ...too much shit to list.
    This.

Toyota didn’t send the service and mileage to your insurance agent, they sent it to CARFAX. Any dealer activity as well as insurance companies, auctions, extended warranty companies, etc. are all sent to CARFAX.
Once it’s in the database anybody who has CARFAX account can review based on VIN. The insurance company is just doing their due dillegence for the vehicles they insure.
