What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

We use the napa calipers at work instead of getting people the factory toyota ones (like 1/4 the price lol). they seem to hold up fine. the paint also seems to hold up great

 

I took the sunroof out for the day and some pop up storms started so I did this

 

Anyone know what this is? Came out my steering collum

My suspicions were correct. Squeaky bastards were rubbing the pinchweld.
After some sawzalling, hammering, painting, and cursing we have this.

Also quieted my leaf springs with some white lithium spray grease. Hopefully it will last a few weeks at a time, but its easy enough to reapply. Should ride quieter than your grandmas LeSabre now.

 

The price for OEM parts would have probably been 4x what he paid, and most likely over $1000. At least he's doing maint on his truck, and not rolling around on worn out parts like most 1st gens are doing these days.

 

Remember if you go with the larger size calipers (231mm)you will have a higher chance of a soft pedal
and brake booster issues if your doing this on the early tacoma. Hopefully you will not. Keep me updated.
2001-2004 tacoma I think there are less issues with the tundra swap

I believe @Blackdawg said this could be countered by swapping in a master cylinder or brake booster or both from an 01-04. I plan on doing that as well when I have time. Truck's "completion date" is hopefully next summer, I would just like it to be mobile enough to go around the block for street sweeping for now and my new front hubs will "capture" the rotor with the studs vs the usual stock floating kind that can be swapped out easily so I decided to do it now. Thanks for the reminder - I had forgotten about that detail though!

 

Haaa, check in with him first, if I remember he swapped it out and it was a huge pain for him,

Huge pain would be par for the course on this truck. Lol. Yeah he said the smaller one from the newer trucks would counter act the bigger calipers - I just can't remember if it was the mc and the booster or only one of them.

The smaller mc and single diaphragm booster give a firmer feel due to the smaller booster and the smaller mc gives higher pressure.

Worked way better.

 

So does that mean using the 2001-2004 complete setup? For the 1995-2000 tacoma
or?

From your experience would it be a plug and play mod to swap in an 01-04 MC and booster into a 95-00 truck as far as the brake line and brake pedal connections go? I was reading through your Igor build and was a little confused. Would it be easier just to buy this whole setup? I already bought the console from him and gotta drive over and pick it up. If it matters, I don't have abs

Yeah it's a direct swap. They made a spacer for the 01-04 so that they wouldn't have to make new brake lines. Might have to modify the the brake pedal a touch but nothing drastic.

 

Any preferable aftermarket options for the mc and booster? Camelback even wants too much for oem

 

Not that I know of. Best bet is to find a wrecked one.
