Try backing them off first to break em free, then tighten the ring. Make sure before you do this that you loosen the set screw until there's no pressure on it, then tighten back up just enough to keep the ring from jumping threads.

 

No, then people wouldn't have to figure it out ..............like now

 

Also make sure suspension is unloaded not insulting intelligence since I like to install shackle bolts backwerds just speaking from my limited experience.

 

Also jack up the frame, take all the weight off the tires

This is a given, but with past experience, not everyone gets it. Yeah, take the load off of the coils by jacking the front end of the truck up.

I've tried doing exactly what you've suggested and no dice. Last time I did this, I loosening the set screw too much and the ring jumped threads. Had to remove the coil overs and have a local offroad shop make the necessary adjustments.

 

Oh great, first case review of the day and it's a suicide. Not how I care to start the day off.
