Hey ppl, I am looking to change my two front tires only since the rear ones have alot less wear. I currently have 285/80/r17 , I plan on going smaller for the smoother ride again. My question is it ok if I get 265/70/r17 and match the sidewall height? I plan on getting the other two in the back when needed to match then. I just don't have enough money for all 4 right now. Im currently looking in to the cooper discovery AT3 , anyone have these? Any recommendations? I want a quieter ride on the highway.

So long as you aren't locking it in 4wd much (or at all) you'll be good. (for now) If it were me, I'd put smaller on front (for now) like you plan, then put 2nd pair on front and new (but slightly used) on rear when you get 2nd set. Front tires USUALLY wear more. Should equalize the wear to an extent.

I'm sure you can find some used stock tires around for cheap that you can use until you save some money for all 4 tires. It'll save you from looking like a redneck (read: Appalachian American) and then your tire wear will be more uniform for the future.
