I thought so as well. I bought 2 of them. Still trying to decide if I want to freeze them whole or separate the point from the flank and freeze. Leaning towards freezing them whole then trimming the fat before the smoke. I do not have the time in my schedule to smoke one till the end of the month.

My GF is awesome. We tried cap steaks for the first time a few weeks ago. Best steaks ever - meat butter is what she called them and declared "these are the only type of steaks we should eat from now on". Works for me! At the Costco today and we loaded up. Definitely, shockingly expensive, but worth it.

Going to have 2 tonight and vacuum seal the other for another day.

Looked like it had a tag in its ear so likely was marked as a nuisance bear. If food is involved they can become unpredictable and a honey badger. Largest squared out black bear in the US (at the time) was shot in Port Orchard Wa. when I lived in Belfair in the early 80's. Kept coming into a guys yard and digging in the trash can so he bought a license, borrowed a shotgun and shot it. And then there are of us that sit over 20 pounds of old doughnuts and baked goods from O'dark thirty to O'dark thirty and never get a clean shot LOL.

You might be on to something with the bait. I remember reading when a guy at a church picnic in Alaska got drunk and took off on his bicycle. A black bear come by and he had taken some BBQ with him so thought it was a good idea to stop and feed the bear. It wasn't. If it would have been a brown bear he would be dead.

exactly, tagged bears are usually for research for weight, age, longevity, health, travel etc.... they can become a nuisance though.

...I have a lot of hunting pressure where Im at so Im thinking thats why they are less around. But they are around!

VA did a 10yr bear study, trappin and tagging bear. i use to go to some had a friend in the game commision. if you killed one in season they would pay you for the tag to figure how far it was from tag site. we would dart it,grease its eyes, take blood pop a tooth and weigh quickly so biologist could give it a shot to wake it up.

That’ll be a dead bear soon. As mentioned, tagged already, maybe a nuisance.

Those guys are lucky, that bear would f them up if it wanted.

Worked from home today again, well mostly :anonymous:

Had the chicken left from yesterday that I never cooked. Leg quarters sat in the fridge buried in Montreal Chicken seasoning uncovered for 24 hours. And 4 chicken breasts halved marinating in equal amounts of ginger ale, soy sauce, and Italian Dressing. First time doing either that long but will do it again for sure, win.

Because I was working and limited on time for lunch but wanted to render the fat out of the walkers low and slow used the Genesis. Took a grill grate out this time and filled the smoke box with wet chips. And an aluminum foil pack of chips with holes in it. Win on that too.

    ChickMeatOn.jpg

Leg quarters went on first and and at the end they got some Sweet Baby Ray's.

    ChickPlatter.jpg

That worked fantastic, time to warm some up for dinner.
