been a hot minute since ive made a thread on here but none the less im in a bit of a situation and hoping to gain a little insight.

Looks like i might be purchasing a military trailer to build up for camping. The goal for the trailer is basically strictly camping will see fire road use at most maybe a light jeep trail. Possibly haul a couple dualsports in the future under a rtt.

Theres 2 trailers that ive found a m1102 and a m416 somewhat local. One is literally 2 minutes from my work and the other is about 4 hours one way drive.

The m1102 is the one extremely local. The m416 is the one a bit further away. Starting price on the m1102 is 1000 and starting price on the m416 is 1500. Both trailer are in equally as good of shape. Now i know the m1102 is a bigger trailer in width and height. But im wondering if it is to big. Or if it might be better to have a bit more space then the smaller m416.

On the flip side the m416 is smaller and obviously eaiser to accomendate to our midsize trucks. Either way both trailers would be undergoing wheel/tire changes and other modifications. Im thinking i could get the m1102 for about 600-800 and the m416 would be 1000-1200 plus the 8 hour round trip.

If you had the option of either trailer which direction would you head?

If anyone has pictures of a m1102 behind a tacoma or runner then that would be great so i can have a size refrence.

I've been eyeballing a similar trailer for a while. Concerning the pintle hitch and surge brakes, do you plan to keep those on the trailer?

M1102 has a 2inch ball reciver the m416 has a pintle. I wouldnt mind either one. But a normal receiver would allow for eaiser adjustment to get the height right. As far as the brakes. They will be swapped to electric.

I saw this in my search online. 37s vs a stock size tacoma is definitely a sight to see! I think the lug pattern is the same as a dodge 2500 so i was thinking of finding a set of steelies and dropping the tire size to a 265 or so. Im running a 2.5 inch lift and 285s currently on my truck. So not sure exactly how to get the trailer aitting level.

I wish I had some pics for you. The 1102 is the way to go. Mine sat perfectly level when loaded with the raised pintle.pintle.jpg trailer side.jpg

Also towed it behind my FJ with this hitch. I doubled the plate on the original just for piece of mind.

Sounds like the 1102 may already be set up right for you based on the fact that the previous owner has put on the 2" ball. That being the case it is probably already rewired to 12 volt as well.

And, the 1102 is aluminum. not sure of the weight comparison between the 2 but that may also be a factor to consider.

How many inches was the raised hitch if you dont mind me asking?

Payload will mostly be light camping gear. Maybe in a couple years a dualsport under the tent.

So this happend today got lucky and the lights and trailer plug have already been swapped over. Also only paid $600 for it. And sits perfectly level with a 6 inch riser hitch.

Is that the smaller one? I think you made the right decision.

It is actually the bigger of the two. I think it was the right decision though. Specially for the money.
