This is the second time this has happened in a couple months. The first time it cleared up after a day. I tried to switch into 4H and and all I get is the flashing 4H light and will not stop. The truck will not engage 4H or anything else. Can not get the light to stop flashing with the dial in 2H. Is there a way to get a fault code to flash? Any ideas guys? I love this truck but have had nothing but problems and in and out of the dealership for warranty work and have another small list and this to add.

There is no fault code, its a simple 4x4 system, it's likely the front differential axle disconnect not engaging properly.

Easiest way to tell is rear wheels off the ground in 4x4. If you can rotate the front driveshaft it's the diff actuator likely.

I usually remove them and swap with a known good unit.

Thanks. The manual says, the flashing light with no beeping indicates malfunction and take it to the dealer. Great info

If this is a AT I had this issue on my gen 2 and I hear it’s still an issue. It’s the front actuator. You can go under your Truck and try banging on the plastic
Housing. Sometimes this helps it, but it’s a temp fix. Usually if water gets
In it will ruin the electronic connectors and you have to replace it.

My opinion the weakest part of the truck. They need to fix this.

On my GMC Sierra I disconnected every Weatherpak connector under the truck and under the hood and put in just a tiny dab of silicone grease like you use on bulbs. Reconnected the plugs and have had zero problems in 120K miles. I assume Toyota uses similar electrical connectors.

I learned this trick years back on dirt and street bikes.

The manual advises that if the indicator keeps flashing after switching to 4H (or back to 2H), to vary your speed. Have you tried that? It worked for me...
