I don't have any issue doing it. Don't even have to think about it. I have many hours of practice in my other car though.

Others have weighed in on various parts of your post. I beg to differ about downshifting on the way to a stop. There's no need to downshift unless you think your going to need that gear after slowing down and then needing to accelerate. Downshifting is "cool" which is probably why people do it. It wears your synchros so why do it? I'd rather replace brakes than synchros. Sure if you get it right there's minimal wear. When coming to a stop, just stay in the gear you're in until the tach drops to 1200 rpm or so, then push in the clutch, pop it into neutral and come to a stop. Or just push in the clutch, come to a stop and then pop it into neutral.

After going from a manual to auto and finally back to a manual, I realize how much slower I drive with a stick. I always coast to a stop in neutral-I never downshift on level ground. I try to coast and brake as little as I can and watch everyone else race to the red light

I do the same thing. I feel like I drive faster in my wife’s suv compared to my truck. I slow the same way for the most part. Unless I Engine brake on someone that is on my ass and scare them.

First I heard that. Got a 93 with 400k manual no repairs on it, 08 with 210k no repairs. Always down shifted. It's what is more comfortable to you. But yes if stopped leave it in neutral.

Was taught that when slowing you should be in a gear that matches the speed you are at so if you want to "go" instead of "stop" you are in the right gear already. I do use engine braking, notice that I use the brakes in my autos a lot more then in my manual. Old habits can be hard to break, been driving this way since around 1972 (1957 chevy pickup, 6 cyl 3 on the tree).

That's how I was. I got chastised by my grandpa for it so ever since then I've been in a gear coming to a stop and engine brake 80-90% of the time.

Hi guys. I'm at the dealer gettin my rear diff resealed. I just watched the car porter through the window in the service office drive my truck away into the mechanics bay. I could visibly see the truck shaking a little as he drove it away. And I asked to get some stuff out of my truck so the same guy drove it back and he stopped and forgot to take it out of gear and stalled it right in front of me. Should I be concerned about this. Would it be reasonable to ask them to be a little more careful with manual trucks? I don't want to be rude.

No big deal. As long as they're abusing it at around idle RPMs, it won't do any harm. If they're doing it under big loads / hi RPMs, then there's reason for concern.

If it was my truck I would just ask if someone else can drive it. Just be nice about it and they should understand

I'd just smile and say "don't drive a stick much do you". Might encourage them to find a manual on the lot to learn with. (not yours).

I had a Jeep and if my boys wanted to drive to school and not take the bus (which was uncool) they had to drive a stick. Both of them have thanked me for it.

Hi all - I’ve got a 2016 Sport MT (bought Dec 2015). Love it. I’ve been noticing that each morning, my first serious clutch engagement is jumpy/sticky (back out of drive is fine, start down the hil= fine, start from stop sign with gas = sticky/jumpy). It’s hard to describe, but it feels as if the clutch is not engaging smoothly - almost as if there is a residue on the plate that wears off or smooths out. After that first start, it’s smooth for the rest of the day. This happens every day, and seems worse if the truck sits. Any advice?

I'm guessing the cold from sitting overnight causes the clutch to stick a little harder under friction until it warms up. I get that sometimes, feels like the truck vibrates a little more and wants to get moving as soon as the clutch makes contact.

I opted for MT on my 18 sport. Mostly because when I had my last one w/auto the girls I'd be dating always wanted to drive it/borrow it ect... most (not all) women I date do not know how to drive Manual so along with being my preferred choice, it also solves the awkward "no you can't drive my truck babe" moments.

Quick question. Is a thud and clunk hurting the truck when engaging the clutch on a downshift? 6-5 downshift from 65mph to 45mph
