Looks like the Deer Valley Trail has opened. That's according to Jeff Blewett, Cal4Wheel's Resource Consultant. I believe that's the new bypass route too.

Thought they opened it last year. At least I got through it. You could tell they did some work in there.

There is a bypass around the private property that was being finished up. Also, the “old” trail was closed for a bit because of the property issue.

That's probably by a semi staging area. You could tell they brought rock in and made a roadway in there.

Hey new to the bay area, got stationed in Alameda in the coast guard. I have a 2018 trd off road, that is currently stock but slowly getting built for overlanding. What are some good day trips and weekend trips within a few hours of the bay area?

Welcome to Alameda! I was born and raised here...

Not much wheeling close by. Day trips are the state parks mostly (Carnegie, hollister, prairie city). Maybe Knoxville or Mendocino. Day trips to the Sierra are possible, but youll be in the truck ALL day. If you’re looking to camp, I’d check out Gold Lake 4x4 camp. Easy enough for a stock truck to make it. No reservations, all first come first serve. Try and go on a Thursday.

I’m not giving away the farm here, these are well known spots. Get a forest service road map and your stock taco will take you far away from (most of) the douchebags so prevalent in CA...

Gold lake was awesome, but today is the last day. They are closing it for next 60 days to install bathrooms.

The road into the campground, the campground and the road out of the campground that goes up the hill to summit lake. I think there are other ways to get back to those other lakes. Not sure
