One of my officers who drives my old patrol Tacoma reported that the HVAC blower quit working. I sent him a YouTube video on how to remove the blower so he could start working on it before I could make it up to his shop. He sent me this picture of the problem he found.

    Whoa!

Hopefully that little rat didn't damage anything else before it's demise.

Mickey left some splatter inside the housing that needed Lysol and a rag to remove.

Insert one of the TW all-time favorite questions to post here:

"How do I clean the engine bay?"

Same thing happened in my wife's car about a year and a half ago, and I trapped three mice in my car and had some wiring damage. Also cleaned nests out several times in the glove box, spare tire compartment under the hatchback floor, and under the seat. I think we had a population explosion that was probably temporary. However, I believe that new ones follow scent trails of others so once you get one there tend to be more on the way. I bought one of these acoustic repellent things for each vehicle, recommended by my tire guy who keeps them in his collection of cars that don't get driven real often. We've moved to a different house since then, so I can't say for sure how well they work, but we haven't had any more mice since I installed them.

I had that happen in my under the house air handler. I heard a vibration coming from the return in the hall. I'm glad it was a quick Discovery before the stinkage.

Had this happen in my wife's 2nd gen Highlander. Twice. The second time, the bastards chewed all the insulation off the engine cover and dragged a dead frog into the squirrel cage.

Damn it to hell, I hope that’s not why my blower went out. Now I’m afraid to check
