Moving the upper ball joint toward the firewall moves the wheel toward the firewall. The general guidance for as much caster as possible applies if you have non-adjustable UCAs. With LR UCAs, you might be able to gain some clearance if you reduced the caster to ~ 3 deg.

The fronts I installed were great. It was actually the rears that I had the dealer do (I don’t know how to do drums). Noticed when the parking brake went to the floor. I guess something happened that took the pressure away from the front. Or there is air in the lines. Again had the dealer bleed the brakes because I have read that our brakes are hard to bleed. I didn’t want to risk it so I paid. And it still messed up.

If your conventional foot brakes are working, then it isn't air in the lines. It's possible the parking brake cable fitting has broken at the drum backing plate, which would require replacing the cable. See:

Both the parking brake and regular brakes do not work. The fronts are grabbing however I think something is messed in the rear since the parking brake isn’t engaging at all (mechanical not hydraulic I think). So maybe the shoe moved or a spring moved. Adjustment screw. Not too sure. Had Toyota replace them since I wasn’t confident to do it and properly set it up (zero experience with drums). We will see tomorrow.

The cable still seems to be pulling at the drum as well since the lines do tighten up. But I haven’t pulled it apart to say for sure. Time will tell.

^Ah. The mechanic probably kept the starwheel adjuster in its compressed position (necessary to install the big shoe return spring) and forgot to adjust it back out.

Just wondering for a friend..... :D

On the TotalChaos stock length LCA's, Standard Stock Length Uniball Lower Control Arms with Dual Shock Capability they say *Not compatible with shocks with bushing lower rod ends.

Can someone tell me what shocks have bushing lower rod ends so I know wtf that is. kthnx.

I’m going to assume it’s either a rubber bushing style like the old man emu use like this

    upload_2018-7-9_13-21-31.jpg

But even fox shocks have that. Maybe just not the shaft portion like the top of our rear shocks use.

Certain shocks have additional bushings around the bottom. Like Eugene's fox 2.0.

Why are you looking at dual shock or TC LCA in general lol.

They only work if you have mid travel. And the dual shock is because it's a bitch to put air bumps in the front for us so you just run a secondary shock to take an that impact when jumping.

If I do the LCA I'll just go single shock.

I was just looking, and did not understand the difference. Figured I should find out :cookiemonster:

What do you mean 'only work'? TotalChaos facebook page says they are a direct replacement for the stock crappy ones, or did I read that wrong?

You can get a stock sized lca that isn’t dual shock. Just stronger.

@llamasmurf he is referring to it not being worth it as generally this will allow more travel. If your shocks don’t allow it then it isn’t worth it. For me, I would just rock them as a stronger alternative.

What I meant was they're not worth the price if your shock isn't at least extended.

Uniball allows a slight bit more travel for the extended shocks. Ball joint limits my travel. Although UCA gets more for me to get max I need LCA too.

They're definitely a hell of a lot stronger and would be a great upgrade for you guys but you wouldn't benefit from it the way I would so for the roughly $2300 you're really not gaining much, and it's not like the stock LCA are really weak. They're actually pretty strong just don't allow enough travel.

To the point you guys might run a risk of destroying your shocks by over extending them without limit straps.

Even for me a limit straps would be a good idea but not as dangerous for me as it would be for non extended shocks
