    Not really a "sealing gasket" but more just a barrier between drum and spindle (those two will rust together over time if left undisturbed. Cracks in paper will not hurt anything mechanical.)
    Red substance on finger looks like Loctite to me and it came off from under a threaded nut (appropriately). No worries there either. {Loctite remains liquid until removed from air (anaerobic).}

    So it actually is paper, eh? Felt like super thin metal. Not sure why he ordered the gaskets, then, if it's not even the part in reference.

    Thank you for the reply.

    Drum brakes are great. Way better than disc. I swear by them

    Thank you, all, for the replies. If anyone has any insight into why the drums are markedly different (literally) and is bubbled up, I'm curious to know.

    Been learning a lot from this forum.

    Glad you got answers. As a former technician, on a job like that, I'd take the time to clean all the parts and areas so not to be questioned. And always ask to see the parts that were replaced. I'd show the customer and explain why we needed or not needed to do what we did. Give the customer an education. They love the transparency.
    PS Faulty parts are not the techs fault. New doesn't mean good. Sometime the new part is faulty.

    I do agree with you. I was trying not to throw anyone under the bus, but was basically saying the only reason I even left early from work is because there was clearly fluid sprayed all over my tires -- residue or otherwise, after an axle replacement, it doesn't take too much to know it should be clean. First thing that I'd imagine would pop into anyone's head is a leak. The tech has been extremely patient with me, but I shouldn't have to sit there and watch him clean up fluid, y'know?

    Unfortunately could not get under the truck after my drive in to work this morning as it was pouring rain.

    I did have time to touch my drums and the driver side was pretty damn hot after 32 miles and very minimal braking. Passenger side was warm-hot. Braking and everything else felt fine on the drive in. Sure enough, this is the "weird" drum.

    some on this forum and also the dealer will say that is normal when braking...if I remember right, they say it is a characteristic of this truck?...mine does it slightly below 20-25 until I come to a complete stop, but I have gotten use to it..

    You're probably not feeling braking vibration but the vibration that occurs during deceleration. That, to me, seems to be normal as I drove a loaner that did the same exact thing.

    Oh, no I know what you're saying. I complained to dealer about it. When I say normal I mean shitty characteristic of vehicle.

    They called me and said the part is in. Think I'm gonna wait until 10,000 mile service to do it, if they don't actually do anything or aren't a problem if they are cracked. They didn't seem too concerned about that.
