They are agreeing to fix the problem, why would he need a lawyer? They never said sorry tough shit and left him hanging.

I'm right there with you on that. Grew up on Chevy trucks, but I grew out of the brand loyalty a while back. I have a buddy who has owned the same vehicle since he was 16(30 now), a '98 Tacoma, and he put 400,000 miles on that beast without a single repair on the engine. I went through 4 vehicles, two complete engine rebuilds and I lost count of how many head gaskets in the time that truck lasted him. Hell, he still has it and it still runs perfect, he just got tired of driving around an old beat up truck and bought another car.

Between his and the countless similar stories I've heard about these trucks, I just couldn't deny how great they've been. Decided to get my first Taco/Toyota with the 3rd gen and then a second one 6 months later with the 1st gen.

A story like this is why I actually have a Tacoma now.

I had a nice 100th Anniversary Harley Springer. Low miles and in great shape. Just not the most comfy ride for extended periods of time. Took it in to see about a trade for one of the new Road Glides with the Milwaukee 8 engine. Ended up making a great deal on one and rode it home that day.

500 miles later my oil pressure light comes on at a stop light. Immediately head home and park it. Dealership comes and picks the bike up and verified that it had no oil pressure. Acting under the direction of H-D, the dealer tears the engine down to assess the damage. H-D decides to replace everything minus the crank and lower cases. I say that is not acceptable and that I want a completely new engine installed. I end up fighting with H-D for 2 months over this. Ended up getting a stage 2 upgrade for essentially free. It was about $2500 worth of parts, plus the labor that was covered under the warranty.

The bike was now a rocket ship but I didn’t trust it. Ended up trading it for my Taco and never looked back.

I definitely understand how you feel, and I believe Toyota will make it right. But right in their eyes and right in your eyes may be on different levels.

wife bought a new subaru crosstrek, 1000 miles, started leaking oil. took it back, said they fixed it, 2 days later, oil on garage floor again, took it back, thay had it for a week, said it was fixed, got it home, oil on garage floor again,, took it back, then said it needed a short block, in the mean time she was talking to subaru corporate, and the general manager of the subaru dealer, we said we bought a new car and dont want a new car with a rebuilt engine, they ordered her a new crosstrek, gave us a new forester as a loaner, it took 3 weeks to get a replacement, in the meantime a package comes to our house, it was a Bose solo sound system, they cost about 400.00,, it had a card inside saying sorry for your inconvience and hope you are back into your new car soon,, we had to get the new car registered,, bla/bla/ they paid for everything,, now thats a good dealer

I don't understand any aspect of this post.
1st, you cant just swap, thats not how warranty works. Trade sure, but OP would lose out on that deal.
2nd, there is no fight with corp. a holes, the issue is getting resolved.
3rd, no need to get a lawyer involved because the warranty is working, the dealer is doing their part, there is nothing for a lawyer to do.

Get the extended 100K mile warranty and call it a day. Drive it worry free knowing that if something goes wrong you’ll have the warranty and the case file already showing something going wrong. Odds are they will be willing to do more and more for you if any other issues pop up. While it’s a large issue, its still only the FIRST issue you’ve seen.

Is like dating a nice girl, marry her and 500 miles later find out she was a porn star. Keep her and go through a mental remorse or swap the scamper?

    Update.

Picked the truck up Monday. Everything seems to be fine.

The Toyota case manager has offered me 7yr, 125k warranty. I thanked Her for the gracious offer. The case manager is presenting this offer to Toyota financial for approval

So I work for a rather large dealer group, and from the dealer point of view you are absolutely handling this in a truly professional manner. And I will tell you that from my experience you will get so much farther with how you are dealing with it than to throw the fit. I also will say that there is an absolute difference in technician levels that do engine rebuilds and those that do services. So with the extended warranty and the very good resale value on Tacoma's the ball is in your court. I personally would keep the truck and roll the dice. You now have a very long warranty and a very good chance that nothing else will go wrong. And if for some reason it all goes wrong again you unload the truck and get your F150. But having handled it the way you have believe me that the dealership will remember and most likely bend over backwards to help you if something else were to happen. Good luck and I hope you get to enjoy your truck.

completely agree, I have gotten more in life by approaching people with kindness and compassion than by going in and yelling and screaming, treat others the way you want to be treated...the golden rule..just saying..

Agreed. I'm sure my dealer rolls their eyes when they see me coming in, but I can confidently say I have never been unappreciative of their time or not thanked them for helping me. It goes a long way. I work for the government and have to deal with people who are VERY upset, aggressive, and rude. Other times, I deal with people who are upset, but understanding and patient -- those are the ones I remember.

Glad you got everything sorted out, OP.
