I will be in the Owens Valley in September, traveling south to north, starting in the city of Mojave.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to an area to camp near the city?

I haven't lived in SoCal for 20 years, and don't remember where I used to camp. And, the area has probably changed.

    Thanks.

Well, assuming that you're 'roughing it', near Mojave, we camp in California City. But, Cal City is off HWY 14 about 20 miles. The area is wide open.

Heading north on HWY 14 is Jawbone Canyon, it is about 20 miles north from Mojave.

Continuing north on HWY 14, just another 5.2 miles north from Jawbone Canyon is Ricardo Campground. This is a fee site, but has a dump station and water.

Another 3.5 miles north from Ricardo Campgrounds is Dove Springs.

These are some of my favorite spots in these locations...copy and paste the GPS co-ordinates into Google Earth or Google Maps.

    Cal City:
    Borax Bills - Fee site with electricity, water and showers. 35 10' 15.95", -117 50' 15.87"
    Open area - no amenities. 35 09' 26.92", -117 47' 28.91"

    Jawbone Canyon - open area, no amenities 35 18' 50.69", -118 00' 18.55"

    Ricardo Campground - Fee site, dump station and water 35 22' 25.46", -117 59 24.56"

    Dove Springs - open area, no amenities 35 25' 32.06", -117 59' 47.48"

    Thank you.

Yes, we will be 'roughing it'.

Jawbone Canyon is one place where I used to camp. Thanks for the reminder.

I will look at all of these sites.

I am really ready for this trip...
