Got my frame ordered. Does Toyota only cover the rental car while they are working on the truck? I could have sworn that some people had to leave their truck at the dealer upon waiting for the frame?
On a side note the dealer notes say that the Perf was larger than 16mm so I wonder if they are increasing the requirements.

My impression is that there may be some criteria about what makes a frame 'unsafe' than what makes it replaceable. Mine was deemed to be unsafe, so I've been riding around in a brand new Tacoma for 2 and a half months. HOWEVER... I just got a call from from the dealer an hour ago that my truck is finally done - I'm going to pick it up tomorrow! I sure hope they did a good job...

My truck was in the shop for 5 months.. 2017 loaner (silly orange) they asked me to pay for reinstall of something, told them no. A bit later my brakes completely failed, line rupture, when a car stopped in front of me in single lane. Fortunately, enough room to dodge through trees and run off.

I suspect they pinched or damaged line (2005 w/ 62K mi) but have no proof.

I would consider doing all shocks, arms, brakelines, etc. when truck is already apart. Shouldn't be a charge to re-install/install.

Your truck is unsafe! Dealer is required to take it out of service and give you a free loaner for the duration! And if you ask they need to provide a comparable vehicle if available.

Well, after two and a half months, I finally got my 2007 Tacoma back from frame replacement therapy today. Haven't really driven it all that much more than home from the dealership, but it seems they did a proper job. In fact, it drives better than ever - but that could just be the new front struts ;-) But everything seems put back together properly, alignment good, brakes good, etc., etc. We'll see how it shakes out in the days ahead, but so far, so good. It's weird to look under there and see the brand new frame and leaf springs and all on top of the somewhat dinged and scratched up body. Anyway, I am really glad to have 'er back, and a bit later I'm gonna go for a ride with my dog (he was not allowed in the loaner).

Speaking of the loaner (2018 Tacome TRD double cab with all the fixin's) It was a lot of fun to tool around in it for a while. But I can honestly say that I prefer my 2007 4 cyl manual transmission Taco regular cab with automatic nothing. It feels more like an extension of myself, better connected to the road. Or something.

I felt the exact same way. It was a real plus to be able to drive one of the newer trucks around, and get a feel for how different they are.

I hear ya on the odd sight of that shiny frame, stickers and all, next to all the old bits. Congrats, and so glad to hear your '07 has a new lease on life!

Update: Had to return for 2nd round of pictures for unexplained reasons. Was in and out in about 30 minutes. Service writer somewhat balked when I mentioned swapping in new parts for old. Hinting that if I bought OEM that labor might be free. OEM is not what I want to swap in. I guess I need to speak with the man who will be doing the frame replacement. I'm mainly wanting to put on new strut assemblies and rear shocks and leaf pack. Thinking of buying new cab mount bushings as well.

Just got a recall letter the other day. Bought my truck 3 months ago. 06 access cab off road with 253000 kilometers. Original owner had it inspected a year ago and it passed.. since I got the notice I thought I would check the frame. Found a rearly weak spot/hole the size of a puck. What are my next steps? Is the dealership gonna screw me around because it already passed inspection? Took me 2 years to find the perfect truck. Now what?

If you have a hole bigger than 10 mm, it doesn't matter if it passed inspection before, provided you get it re-inspected before the deadline, which is 12 years from the in-service date of the vehicle. Hmmm, 2006+12=2018... that's NOW. Get it to a dealer ASAP, bring your recall letter, and hope for the best. But don't waste a minute...

Thanks for the heads up....in serice date. I stopped at the dealership yesterday. The date on my notice starts on July 21....next week. I'm going to make an appointment right away to have it looked at. I really don't want to lose my truck. Absolutely in love with it lol

Mine was inspected and past two years ago. I found a rusted out area on the frame I took pics and took it in. The service writer had me text him the pics an hour later they told me they were ordering a frame probably be a couple months keep the loaner.
As for having new parts installed. I had OEM parts installed and was not charged labor.

You can go to the official Toyota Tacoma site and find out all sorts of stuff about your truck:

    https://www.toyota.com/owners/

Once you're all signed up, check out 'view specs' in the upper left of the page...

I really hope that they aren't going to deny my frame if I missed my 12 year dead line by a month or 2

If it turns out you're a little late, don't bring it up at the dealer - let them figure it out. Bring your letter, tell 'em this was the first you heard of it, and stand your ground. I think you'll get a new frame. It's worth a bit of a fight...
