2015 Toyota Tacoma. i rear ended a car going 6.8mph (per data from black box in truck). Upon collision all front and curtain airbags deployed. As well as all the seat airbags. I contacted Toyota and they told me that's normal and that there is nothing wrong with all airbags going off while going 6.8 mph. Can someone give me some feedback and let me know if this has happened to anyone else, and if this really is normal or acceptable.

    Yes it was.
Truck got totaled because of the airbag damage over $13,000 in airbag damage alone.

In August 2015, I rear-ended a 2014 Mustang GT going probably about that fast; Approximately $1,500 in damage to my Tacoma which included a bent radiator support, but the airbags did not deploy.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the angle you hit the other vehicle at. Does your truck have significant front end damage and/or damage to the radiator/condenser? Specifically, can you run the engine for an extended period of time without it overheating, and does your A/C still blow cold?

Do you have pictures of what your truck looks like after the accident?

In my opinion, I think you should get the truck fixed and refuse to let insurance total it!

Sure doesn't seem like enough to set them off to me, but I'm no expert.

I'm just wondering if its worth the battle with Toyota... I've been dealing with this since first week of may. It's frustrating especially since I only only the truck for 4 days.

New side current airbags are probably about $5,000 installed. For grins, I asked my body guy how much a driver airbag for my truck would cost, and he said about $600. I'm guessing the passenger airbag would be more since that side of the dash would have to be replaced.

Did your seat airbags deploy as well?

When you say contacted Toyota. Did you talk to one of the 1800 customer service reps. Most of the them work off a script and are closer to robots than humans.

I actually opened a case with Toyota where they sent a technician out to pull data from the black box. And after numerous phone calls finally a claims rep got back to me.

That's what totaled it! Those goddamn seats cost a few grand apiece! I still say you should either fight the insurance company or buy it back and fix it. A TW member bought a set of SR5 buckets with airbags for his base 5-lug RC, for like $300!

Your truck has still gotta be worth a good $25-30K!
