Well, your friends are telling you that it straight up works.

I have a 5yr old BT adapter that works with Torque Pro. It allowed me to do the Carista Customizations with no problem, other than not canceling the 1ys subscription in time.

Just be careful. Some of the cheaper ObdII Bluetooth readers will throw a ABS code and warning light. I have the BAMF and this reader throws warning lights when towing my camper.

Yeah I believe you guys more than their service reps :). I just think its nuts that they're telling two different people with the same car two different things. I'll just have to get another adapter and try it out that way.

If you're getting an adapter, you might as well get the Carista one for $20 since it comes with 1wk or 1mo free.

I did, that's the adapter that I've been using. But my phone doesn't seem to recognize it, even when I try and use the free diagnostic. So I'm going to get a different adapter and try using the app with that.

So I'm still a little confused on this. With the "free 1 month trial period of paid carista app features" that's included when I buy it, will that be enough to cover my basic changes like seatbelt chimes, etc. or will I have to sign up for the premium service?

The free trial is all you need, but you only get it if you buy the Carista OBDII Adapter. Most people go through the app, set and forget the customizations the way they like them. You only need a subscription if you plan on changing things over and over again. That's why they make money on the 1 week pass. If you want to change something after your trial expires, you need to buy back into those pro features to change them again.

Thank you, really the only thing I care about is the seatbelt chime and blinker change from 3 blinks to 5 or 7. I think I'll go ahead and pick it up.

    Thanks!

Just used my new Carista OBDII Adapter and Carista iPhone app to customize a few settings in my Tacoma. Simple and very easy to use.

I have the pro account, and I cannot find the part that disables the door ajar chime. I've got all the other things I wanted, but it's not on my app. On Android operating system, can anyone screenshot where it is???

Question - I can't find the link to all the options you can set in Carista (I know I've seen it around but can't find it again), but I'm wondering what stuff can ONLY be done in it? I believe a lot of them can just be changed through the radio/entune just as easily, so I'm wondering if it is worth buying or tracking down a Carista or not based on what it offers over what is available in entune.

Below is the personalization sheet that I DL'ed from TW. It shows that it is from a 2016. I have no idea if the 2018 is different. My guess is that there are more options to adjust?

For example, only Carista can shut off the seat belt chime and change the number of turn signal flashes. I am not 100% sure, but I think Carista only can shut off the beep for the alarm. Yes, there are some config options in the Entune unit as well as some in the screen between the tach and speedo.

I believe TechStream can do all that and more, but I haven't jumped down that rabbit hole yet.

Looking at the sheet, there is an option that stops the HVAC fan from cycling to full speed on startup. If I owned a Taco with Auto HVAC, I'd change that one.

Sorry. There is no Carista option to kill the key in / door open chime. I think it was said that TechStream can help there? Not 100% sure.

Folks have posted mods that remove the speaker from the back of the instrument cluster (non-reversible) and to remove the contact from the ignition tumbler (somewhat reversible). The thing about the micro switch is that I hear something prime / cycle when I put my key in. I don't like the door chime but am worried about losing that priming function. There were some comments in the past about hard starting. I do not have that problem, so . . .

My friend has a 16 Tacoma OR and his tachometer stopped working about two weeks ago. He bought one on eBay for about $250 and will like to update the millage for what it was before to 133k miles. The dealer quote him a lot of $$$ to reprogram and they need proof that the cluster was purchased from an authorized Toyota dealer or auto part dep, not junkyard. The "new" cluster has about 25k miles. Can the carista or scantool be able to update the mileage? Is there another way he can do this besides going thru the dealer? My question is, I thought that the 3rd gen stores the mileage on the ecu and the accurate millage will show on his "new" cluster (?)...

Carista is no help there and I don't believe that a standard OBDII tool would be any help either. Maybe TechStream, but I have no experience there.

There might be a non-dealer shop that could do the work. In either case, the swap may end up on Carfax. Just one of those Federale things.
