For those who live in the bitter winter cold (Canada, New England, Minnesota, etc.), is rear visibility a problem without the rear window defroster?

I'm not asking about the backup camera when in reverse. I'm asking about regular driving and ability to see out back?

    Thanks much!

No issues, except when the snow gets piled up on my bed cover and gets higher than the rear window...

in the 2 winters in north Dakota, we never had an issues with the rear window. on the double cab, the heater worked well enough in the small cab to keep it clear of junk such as frost or snow. but being straight vertical helped with keep snow and frost off of it.

That sounds impressive. I assumed the rear window would always be covered in fog, frost and ice.

Nope. Even in below 0F, back window stays clear.

I'll say that even in the NW, the front and sides will fog easily esp when we cannot set the vents to a more direct defrost setting without kicking on the a/c compressor. The rear window was surprisingly no problem at all.

I thought the rear window had defroster? Pretty sure I read in the OM that you shouldn't use windex on it because you could damage it?

Nice find! I'd enjoy seeing that. I might have skipped the cleaning section since, well, it's a truck.

This is all really encouraging and surprising!! I was ruling out the Tacoma for life in Canada based on their being no rear defroster.

I’ve owned pickups my entire life. I’ve never owned one, and I don’t recall ever seeing one, with a rear defroster. It simply isn’t necessary on a pickup. The vertical glass works well to prevent frosting.

I've seen a defroster grid on a newer full size. I can't remember which one, but it stuck out in my mind as different.

Same for me - unlike a sedan or hatch/wagon, the window is close enough to all the warm air the HVAC pumps through the cabin that it defrosts/defogs even before the rear door windows in my double cab.

Can say I recall it ever being an issue on any of the 3 yotas, a single cab then access and now double.

No issues here either, even when the bed is full of snow and subsequently blows on to the back window the heater keeps it pretty clear.

Had a 2nd gen 13 years in winter's that ranged from 40 to 100 inches. Temps well below zero degrees f. Never once an issue. Keep the snow off the roof before leaving and it'll be just fine.
