On a fuel injected BMW motorcycle you can get these devices that plug into the fuel injection harness made by a company called AF-XiED. These devices fool the O2 sensors into thinking the engine is cooler than it is and so the injector computer enrichens the mixture. The end result is that the engine makes more HP.

I'm wondering if such a device is available for the 2.7L 4-cyl to improve power, specifically for towing. I don't care anything about racing or ultimate HP, I'm simply trying to get past the anemic power output that keeps the engine down-shifting on the open road.

    Any ideas ?

I'm an old school carb guy and don't have any means to measure AFR. Is there a simple tool or ap that allows such ? I've been using Torque for fuel mileage, will that do it ? And if so, how do you tweak the system ?

    Thanks,

Not sure if u can get an accurate reading with the oem sensors.... most go to a dedicated wideband and gauge.

On the 4.0 the easiest way to make hp is the maf calibrator and tune it to PULL fuel OUT, because they run stupid rich. Pulling fuel out of the 4.0 allowed urd to find a hidden 15hp on an otherwise stock v6.

Throwing more fuel at your truck may, or may not be the answer... it could take off like a rocket, or fall on its face while it drowns.

This is an old way for "power gains" they were popular on the 4 liter tacomas. It really doesn't work, you may get more power in some places but it sacrifices it elsewhere, and you loose fuel economy.

I've never made more power by richening an afr. Unless the motor runs lean stock and is pulling timing. Also it tricks the amount of metered air. Afr can't be manipulated by temp.

Like stated above motors naturally are tuned rich to be safe and power can be unlocked by pulling fuel and adding a bit of timing.

You could get a piggy back. Dyno tuned and make 10hp with this. https://www.lceperformance.com/LCE-Pro-Fuel-Injection-Kit-2-4-Cylinder-p/1063024.htm

Ive never heard of these things being used on the 4.0
The 1grfe in our tacomas is rich as hell... look at the area around the exhaust tip, bedsides on white trucks are discolored sometimes.

Where I work I would see them tapped into the MAF on 5.7 tunrdas and the 4.0 tacos. We would throw them out during used car inspections. Maybe its more a generic gimic than a Toyota targeted item.

Ah, yeah... a resistor at best and they were sometimes leading to nowhere. 20 more hp and 50 mpg gaurantee. Gotcha.
Plus 1 size magically fits all
