Yep! I'm a street bike guy that is slowly converting to enduros (I'm hoping to get one in the next year if all the cards fall into place). I rode my friend's 125 2stroke for an afternoon. It was a struggle for me to stay on the pipe. It felt great but I could see myself getting in a lot of trouble on even light technical stuff on trails. So, I will be on the look out for a nice 4stroke (DR-Z, CRF250L, WR, etc.). I basically want a 2wheeled version of a stock Taco. Light trails, some commuting, and general hooligan stuff.

Around here on some steep neighborhood hills, I had to laugh that the Taco was caught out in 2nd gear. It was losing RPMs at WOT somewhere around 15mph or so. Downshift and get on the pipe. Haha!

The first time I noticed Rev Hang was 10 years ago when I first bought my 08 Tacoma, haven't really paid attention to it again since then.

IMO that would be a KLR650.

Yea the power band is like Crack though. Once you get on it you have to do it again... and again... until you are on it all the time lol. I raced motocross from 1975 to 1982, from 12yo to 19yo. Started in 125 and ended in 250 class. Man I loved those days and I remember every broken bone. Best invention ever? Jofa mouth guard lol.

I've thought a lot about the KLR and really like them. I think the converted MXs are a bit more appealing for my use? The plan is for easy loading in the Taco to trail heads far away, truck camping, and swapping on supermoto wheels when the feeling strikes. I won't need any more storage than a small tail bag and do not plan to go for hours on road.

If that doesn't all come true, the KLR would be the first back up plan. I have no intention of getting anywhere near an all out ADV bike (KTM ADV, GS, etc.). Just no appeal to me, too many compromises, and wayy too expensive.

I do have an old sporttourer. It's my pinnacle for a street bike, commuting, motocamping, and touring.

I think it is a decent comparison to the Tacoma. Mostly street but can go off road if you know what you are doing. What a bike.

Oh yeah. I like playing around up there, but 2nd gear redline is already 60mph and the state patrol around here is a bit overzealous.

I spent my youth on bicycles with constant dreams of motorcycles. My parents didn't have an adventurous bone in their bodies. Now, I'd support the kids if they wanted to do anything beyond their massive dance dreams. In the end, I'm stoked when they come down to the garage when I'm wrenching or, if I can twist their arms enough, to climb on the back or the motorcycle. I do really miss the sidecar for that. But then, they jump in the Taco with even needing to ask.

Those litter this area. Most folks here use them as sporttourers. I road a friend's KTM 990. Just didn't enjoy it. The MX was way more fun, plus that whole SM thang. Braaaapp! Braaaapp!

I had a KLR and my thought was it was boring, easy to ride, do anything but not real good at one thing. Just like a Toyota truck. I put 20mm ammo cans on as panniers, it looked pretty cool I thought. The BMWs and KTMs are just more fussy. I figured it weren't willing to kick your bike over it wasn't really a dual sport.

I was backward. Spent my childhood going fast in the dirt. Now spend my adult life on a mountain bike. Way too many trips to the ER.

Yeah. I'm done with european bikes. I just want to ride. Way too much needless wrenching the past bunch of years.

I was drooling over the new R 1200 RS. Getting one without ESA would have been a small challenge. But, still too many gizmos and too tied to the dealership for servicing. I like my simplistic ST. The only time it saw a shop was when I paid to get the suspension refurbded. But, 6,000mi valve checks are annoying.

My hope is a VFR800 when the current bike (108,000mi mostly doing short commutes) gives up the ghost.

Dull is a feature, not a bug! I need dull in my life! Just a bit smaller and lighter for the first try.

I had fun and enjoyed the flat twin in my Ural, when it was actually running. Service was easy and fast.

Not many folks that I know actually wrench on their own Beemers or any other bike, so I have to go off of hearsay for the most part. That said, the new RS is dug in to the system pretty deep. Yes, eurobikes in general have some really nice engineering (I will admit to staring, prodding, and fondling the guts of my Duc when in there), but I've come away with mostly the same feelings about euro cars. Just a bit too much to deal with. That's why I am in a Taco. :D

I did not know that a BMW ST forum existed. I never got into that deep. I have seen some crazy good deals on older K 1200 Ss. I like the oil / water heads better though.

I think I'm solidly in the viffer camp next. We'll see where that leads.
