Since I don't have anything to compare it to, I'm wondering you can tell me if your truck sounds the same. I know about the Tacoma "tick" and the fuel injectors and all that, but I think this is different. It basically sounds like a diesel. I've included an audio clip here if anyone wants to listen. It's too long (my apologies) but you can hear the ticking/diesel sound I'm talking about both at idle and while under acceleration. I do have a TRD exhaust and CAI so that dominates the sounds, but you can hear it underneath that.

    Any thoughts?

That's normal engine chatter nothing to worry about, my '18 TRD sounds the same, like a diesel, with only 700 miles on the clock.
    Drive it and enjoy it.

My 17 sounds diesel-ish too, I've heard it's nothing to worry about.

Just a quick update...I was at the dealer for alignment yesterday and had them check the noise just for peace of mind. One of the master techs did a ride-along with me and noticed the noise, but said it's completely normal. He said it's the flutter from the high pressure fuel pump. He agreed that it's loud and mentioned they've been that way since 2016, a design flaw in his opinion. Anyway, good to know what it is, and that it's normal in case anyone else has it.
