Yes.the ad-volerum tax is accessed when you move into GA the first year. However, when you purchase a new vehicle in GA there is -0- sales tax. The ad-volerum tax is charged at that time, but you get the same trade-in tax credit against the total. Good news is that this tax is fully deductible on your income tax form provided you itemize.

I think the "normal" renewal is about $40 in FL. My wife and I both are not "normal" registrations. We each have a vanity plate on a sponsored fund plate (heart association).

My daughter does have a standard plate/registration but she takes care of it herself. Which is perfectly acceptable to me as she is 26.

No it’s supposed to be allocated for road repairs and infrastructure but they’ve managed to re route it to other state objectives unrelated to the roads and infrastructures...

Growing up in SC I knew adults would travel to the GA border to buy lottery tickets every time the PowerBall would grow to some ridiculous number. Everyone seemed to be jealous of GA's state "education" lottery; it funds their college scholarship- graduate HS with a B average and get a full ride to any public in-state university, to include GA Tech (GREAT University). So SC puts it up for a vote, saying it will pretty much be a carbon copy of GA's system- it gets approved with overwhelming popular support. Then the hell bound politicians get their hands on the money... pays for grade school bus fleet and instead of universities (award bachelor's degrees) they say it is to fund tuition at any in-state vocational college (awards associate degrees). *** it gets worst *** Before the SC "education" lottery, Greenville Technical College (where I earned my associates) tuition was something like $600/semester. They immediately raised their tuition to $1200/semester citing their previous underfunding from the state and are using the money to support campus construction initiatives for the future- students tuition will be $600, same as before :annoyed:

Tennessee has something similar also called hope scholarship. TN followed Georgia after they approved it in 1993.

Our program isn’t as generous though. It pays up to $6000 a year at a public university. Tuition at University of Tennessee is about $10k a year but it’s a big help. I knew some that got max pell grants and went to school for free with the states funded lottery scholarship.

It defiantly helps keep us students who came from lower income families stay out of massive student loan debt.

Bullet train is a great idea. I’ve done a ton of traveling and found that having access to quality public transportation is really a good thing. Don’t get me wrong. I like driving. I’ve got a Porsche. Driving is relaxing for me. But being able to hop on a train or bus or a subway and pop up somewhere in the city is pretty cool. Less traffic, no parking hassles or fees, less pollution, ease of navigation are all pluses. I understand that these things cost money but it’s an investment in the future.

Dare I ask what they do with the revenue?

Sounds like MA, raised the tobacco tax twice in the past 10 years a dollar each time. While lecturing us not to smoke, the increases went to fund the state healthcare connector and then to bail out the MBTA (train/bus system).

Oklahoma - First excise tax + sales tax = $1695 (for mine) (I get about $225 of that back from Choctaws though )

2nd year through I don't know exactly what year = $90 a year. But I get $20 back from the Choctaws per tag.

In Missouri you pay no state/county taxes or fees to the dealer when purchasing. To get your plates you go to the local State DOR office to register said vehicle. It is dependent on the purchase price of the vehicle (minus the value of trade-in (private sales work this way as well). The sales taxes also include any state/county/city tax . Then every year you pay county/city personal property taxes on the value of the vehicle as it is assessed. The older the vehicle the less you pay.
Plus in Mo. you can obtain one free registration for disabled veteran status.

I'm not against it. When I go to DC and Baltimore I never rent a car. It was supposed to make people laugh. That's all.
