Camper shell and tailgate dust protection

Hi there,

I did few dust trips across Utah/Nevada/California, mostly canyons, forest roads and kind of desert. And found that I need to make insulation for the tailgate and rear windoor on the shell. So, it's simple to protect perimeter of tailgate except bottom corners near hinges. Also I don't know how to protect bottom corners of the shell windoor(ARE). Any suggestions? Examples?

 

Tailgate seal, Lund installed. But other brands out there. They are very similar(Access, Maxseal, ect). As you can see I flipped bottom and cut small piece's around hinges. Completely seals, no water or dust.

 

Nice job with the install. When I get my tonneau I think im going to do this.

 

I've used marine/auto weatherstrips and foam/glue for some areas but still don't know how to fix bottom corner of the rear windoor and hinges.

 

Yep, works great! I used this product from Amazon, which looks like the same stuff, and it's done a fantastic job of keeping the dust out of my bed:

A pro installer (a good one) installed my Access tonneau and an Access seal. A very "neat" job. He used an adhesive promoter on the seal. However, the seal is starting to come loose from the composite bed. Any suggestions for making it stick? Next week I'll go back to the installer, but I'd still appreciate your suggestions.

 

I cleaned it with alcohol very well first and the used the supplied adhesion promoter. Then hit it with heat gun.

Also run a bead of black silicone caulk where bed sides and floor meet by tailgate. You can see it in my earlier posted picture.

 

I just used very good construction Loctite glue and patches of natural leather(also make protruding parts of locks shorter).

 

you need sanding and good construction adhesive glue

 

Make sure you use black silicone sealant before you install the rubber gasket. There’s a 3” gap were the composite bed meets the metal body, a lot of dust can enter there.

 

Here is a cell phone pic,3” spot that dust and water can get in. I ran a bead the day before that under the tailgate seal.

 

Thanks...I have considered doing just that...after I give the installer another chance. He might even suggest that. He did a great job of silicone sealing the edges of the tonneau cover that he installed.

 

Gonna try this myself today. It's cold out so I am not sure how well the ESI seal will stick. I've already done the silicone of the gap between the bed and metal side wall.
