Buddy, I am so sorry. Loosing a dog never gets easy regardless of the reason. We always had dogs growing up and I'll be getting one as soon as I can, seen a few come and go from various reasons, it always hits hard. I feel for you. Praying for you and your family, take the time to grieve and know its totally fine to do so.

Do you know what she got into a fight with? Fractured skull and limbs... was she hit by a car? I know you said attacked, but those are impact wounds uncommon from and animal fight... Just speculating hoping she wasn't attacked by people.

    :(

We put down my 14 year old chow almost a year ago and I still miss her everyday. I keep her collar in my truck makes me feel better. She will be waiting on the other side of the rainbow bridge. RIP Miss Ginger.

Our beloved cat died unexpectedly a few years ago. My wife had the for thought to get pink paw imprints on index cards for our daughters prior to the burial.

My daughters are older but both still have those cards on the mirrors in their bedrooms.

Nice to have something physical to remind you. Hope you find peace with this once the rawness subsides my friend

    To answer questions:
I don't live with my daughter since her mom and I broke up. They are still in the house, with the dogs because it was a better for the dogs and the people than having them in a 3rd floor apartment while I got back on my feet. They adopted a 2 year old German Shepard mix about 6 months ago. That's the dog that attacked Ginger. Ginger was on old dog. She was slow, had arthritis, and never, ever showed any signs of aggressiveness. Even with rough house play when she was younger, she would just let the other dogs and kids jump on her and nip, and she just didn't give a damn.
The POS new dog had issues, and I kept telling them to get rid of it. It was skittish around people, and didn't seem to be in the "pack" with the other dogs.
I found out when my daughter called crying and telling me what happened and that they needed help. I wasn't processing much at the time as I was recovering from a concussion when I smashed my head on a steel beam a few hours earlier. But, I got dressed and drove the hour towards the house to pick them up to take them to the Vet ER. They managed to get her there so i diverted and met them there. I was heartbroken seeing my daughter there, her mom covered in Gingers blood. When I saw Ginger, I knew there was only one option. I knew it had to be done, but it's hard to say those words, and to have your child hear you tell someone to kill your dog. But i and the vet assured her that it was the best course of action considering the severity of the wounds Ginger had and her age would make surviving surgery almost impossible.
My daughter is still healing from this, and it will only get worse before it gets better because the dog that attacked Ginger is going to be euthanized as well. It's an overly aggressive dog that tried to kill one dog already. It won't be allowed to inflict this kind of pain on another dog or family. We tried to just take it to the pound and give it a chance there, but no local places said they were taking in any animals, and we won't keep this one around to risk it attacking one of the others.
