What does PreRunner mean? 2wd?

2wd on a 4wd frame.

With 1st/2nd gens, we had 2wd (5 lug) and I call them taquitos. Prerunner was meant to differentiate between the 2wd 5 lug and the 2wd 6 lug, which is the same in every way to a 4x4 minus the actual 4x4

It should probably be mentioned, that since this is a 3rd gen thread, there’s no longer a Prerunner model. When they brought out the 3rd gens, they dropped the 5 lug model.

Not called a Prerunner. That’s simply what a lot of people call the 2wd model. All Tacoma’s use the same type of suspension now.

 

I like how the 2wd SR's sit up now instead of looking like an old man truck. You can get 2wd in SR5, Sport and TRDOR but they're rare around my area. I think Limited can be had in 2wd but don't quote me on that.

 

Which brings the 5 lugs on the cusp of collectible. Right?

I mean I love my 5 lug. But I'll have to wash it more if it needs to be Mecum ready.
