Which 235/75r15s?

I am looking into getting larger tires for my 5 lug. I though it would be a good idea to see what kind of tires that members here chose, and how would they rate the tires as far as durability, traction, and price. I would also like to hear your suggestions regarding that size tire? Don't be afraid to post pics of how your tires looked on your Tacoma. I really want to hear from people who have ran these tires for several thousand miles.

 

Here was mine when I had Goodyear Wrangler Radials, good tire. Reasonably priced too. But shortly after I got them on I had the itch to go bigger. Got the Fatbobs lift and went up to 31's a couple months later.

How did the wranglers handle compared to the stock tires? What about the wet highway traction? Did they seem to perform well offroad (nothing serious just like moderate mud, sand, dirt, and gravel)?

 

Made the ride a lot better, no major difference in power or anything like that. Highway was great, wet was as good as a rear wheel drive pickup is gonna be. Didn't get into any heavy mud, but simple gravel and dirt was fine. I would have probably gotten 30's instead if I had seen how easy the black box removal was, but that's no knock against the wranglers.

 

Did you have the Wranglers long enough to see how they performed in tread wear?

 

I did not, but i know for sure other 5lugs have had them. Just search around a bit i'm sure you'll find everything you need.

 

gey guys, i just got my first Tacoma a month ago and im loving it. 2014 5 lugger. drove it strait from dealership to get some 235's. just a quick question. could u give me some more info on fat bobs lift? im a bot torn between fat bobs and ready lift. leaning more toward bobs. how did the ride feel with the lift before slapping on the big tires? noticeable difference in height or smoothness?

 

Econdor - I have a 2013 5 lug. You should go for the fatbob. (cheaper - and comes with shocks).
I wish I did my homework before I rushed out to get my readylift. Anyway, same basic lifts. (Front spacer with rear add a leaf). I am also running 235's. (Gonna go for 30 or 31" tires when these wear out). Yes, noticable height difference. Smoothness? A little more "lean" in the fast turns or curves. Ride is still good. Lost 1 MPG (From 20mpg to 19mpg). Speedo reads -3 mph than actual. Overall I really like the results. Here is a current pic.

I had wrangler radials after lifting. They wore terribly but it was mostly due to extenuating circumstances... I replaced them because I wore one all the way bald because of my little incident with the guard rail, but the 2 rears were way worn out by then too. It wasn't a natural looking wear pattern though, I'm thinking I ran them at way too high of psi (was trying to get better gas mileage and ended up wearing the middle of both rears out). I didn't even have 20k miles on them

They were pretty good in snow and any offroading an open diff 5 lug was capable of though, it surprised me several times in snow and mud. I now have Hankook Dynapros and they appear to be wearing way better.

 

I have wrangler tires for a lil over year never took out my black box, rubs during hard turn but never shown any heavy wears from rubbing matter of fact with proper rotations threads on the tire is still good, good enough for discount tire to offer me warrantee on them even though I didn't buy from them. Oh btw if you guys didn't know, walmart has them for 80 bucks a piece.

Guys maybe a crazy question but on a 5 lug how close can I come to a prerunner look buy getting the over fenders and larger tires?

Will I have to go to 16" wheels and tires and a lift?

 

I'm on 31's with the fatbob lift and love it. Wouldn't change a thing (except having more money for a 4x4). Click the link in my sig for some pics. Essentially the same ride height and wheel size of a Prerunner (a little bit bigger tires than a stock prerunner), actually looks beefier with 15 inch wheels and the tires pushing out an couple inches from the fenders.

This is a picture of my 2010 Access Cab with 16" Enkei Wheels and 235/65/16 Firestone Destination LE2's. (package deal from Tire Rack). Truck sits 1" taller, speedo now correct (was about 5% fast before), wheel wells filled out nicely and truck runs smooth on the new setup (Tire Rack does road force balancing). Mileage about the same when I factor in the odometer difference, avg 23mpg. You don't need to go all the way to 235/75's to get a nice look. You do notice a drop in power of about 5% which is noticeable with the 4 banger.

 

I put LT235/75 on my truck and I love them. I bought my truck with over size rims and went to stock and didn't want to put stock tires on. So far I haven't noticed any problems with acceleration. As far as gas goes, I'm averaging mid 20's. There's been no rubbing when I turn and I haven't needed to take the black box out.

 

Do you have any rubbing with the 31” tires?
