Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but I have already have an openflash tablet, can I use it to flash my ECU with OVTune, or do I need the Tactrix adaptor?

 

A page or two back I mentioned I will likely be doing 2 versions of 1.05 (power, mpg), due to this TSB.
You may get the TSB if you want. I don't have an ETA on release yet though, but I am actively working on it during the move.

Openflash tablet is not supported, different product, can't load our tunes to it.

Power or MPG tune?!? That’s gonna be a tough choice for sure. This is where it’d be nice to flip a switch and toggle between. MPG most of the time, power while towing or hooning

 

I agree. I know its a pipe dream, although possible with the right equipment and man power to write the elaborate programs.

My last vehicle was tuned with a Cobb AccessPort that supported multiple maps which could be switched, on the fly, via the OEM steering wheel controls. That would be amazing with the Tacoma, especially once some of us start pushing boost.

You could always just take a laptop on the road with you. I’ve switched from the 91 to 87 back to 91 a bunch when traveling in high elevation western states that don’t have 91/93.

A handheld would have been cool tho

 

Oh I know and I’ll probably do that on occasion depending on the trip I’m doing

Actually I’ll probably run both for a few thousand miles each to get a feel for the differences. Might be an easy decision to just stay with one. Won’t know for sure until it arrives.

 

I have normally opted for the 91 map due to the availability of that octane or higher here in central TX but I do have a few thousand on 1.03 87... it wasn’t bad at all. When I would have the bed rack and tent off and also be unloaded of camping gear, I’d run it and it was just fine. At higher elevations it’s a little bit of a dog tho. I’m talking 9-10k with a fully loaded truck. Lots of other factors adding to that at those elevations or higher

 

I pulled my trailer (2500-3000 lbs) on I70 across Colorado running the 87 tune. You’ll definitely notice the elevation once you get over about 8k feet. I was still pulling better than most stuff at that elevation though, I was still able to maintain speed but I had to wind it up a bit, especially near vail

Did 1.04 87 for 1000 miles and was very good. Didn't get mpg boost, stayed about normal, but driving was much better.
On 91 tune with 250miles on it and absolutely love it. Driving is great, power the when u want it, and mpg sent up 2 mpg (maybe just higher quality fuel).

I don't know if I even want to try 1.05 since 1.04 91 is just perfect for me...

Would be a great use of the ECT power button. Power normally. Press the button for MPGs.

Just chiming in for the Canadians paying out the ass for gas. An mpg tune would be nice most of the time

 

Plan will be to do both.
1.05 87/91 octane MPG / Efficiency base
1.05 91/93 Torque unlocked

Shift settings, torque modeling for transmission and engine, throttle etc will be different for each version.
Will consider 87 octane Torque version file. Can't gain much out of 87

 

Have driven on the 91 tune about 350mi. and the difference between now and stock is unbelievable.Lots of power throughout the gears and shifting is much better. It’s fun to drive again.
