I would suggest you get your barely broken in 2nd gen fixed.

Maybe find another mechanic to fix whatever the first one screwed up.

If it really starts to become a money pit, then trade it in for a new truck.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

I had an 08 with 99K miles. I bought an 18 & sold my 08 for $19,500. I never really liked the look of the 2nd gens. I wished I would have kept my 95 though.

Assuming your 2011 is paid off, just keep driving that and save up for your new truck. Trade it in and pay cash for the new truck.

    Thanks all!

I've been browsing around for a while and seen the "complaints" about the 3rd gens and basically you guys did not give any of that to me and I appreciate it.

As for the "monthly" payments, that's based on the overall price (completely) .Knowing what me and my family can afford, I won't let the salesman push hard. If I can't get what I want, I have a finctioning truck, and can easily walk away.... I just need to find a hungry salesman who's willing to negotiate. I'll know more once this shop tries to fix my dash (FYI, they broke some clips, my pioneer microphone, cab noise and ac isnt working like it was, so they've got a little making up to do)

I'm basically trying to find that maximum economical return on my trade.

My truck is paid off, and I've already started a "Tacoma fund" but I was hoping to use it for a lift . But now that's gone to the ac.

There is quite a bit of maintenance coming up for the truck, so that's also playing a factor (brakes, tires, flushes, etc)

The good thing about Toyota’s is their durability. There should be minimal issues besides maintenance. Maybe a Cv boot/axcel.

Launch the old one. Life is too short to have to deal with that craptastic 1980's interior. :amen:

Now that’s a great example of excellent resale value, the fact that some one paid the price of a new subcompact car, but for a 10 year old used truck with nearly 100k on the odo. This makes me happy to be in the Tacoma family!

This was the best response. There will be a bias depending on who you ask! Those who’ve owned both should be the best ones to comment about the pros and cons of either, however no one can tell you anything past things regarding the truck or what to do because you’re the one that has to ultimately decide based on many factors, financial situation being one of them.

I’ve never owned a 2nd gen, and I know they’re great vehicles, many times than not, they are bullet proof but I can’t tell you go for a 3rd gen simply because I have one. That’s not a good enough reason.

I would just like to say that I have a 3rd gen 4runner that I will never part with because it will never die . I need you guys to talk me into a Taco. Do I deserve 2 Toyotas at a time? I'm loyal for sure. Since 1985 I've owned just about every Toyota there is including 3 different Supras that I never should have parted with.

No,why would you want a big payment, when you have a truck that will easy go another 200,000 miles,3 rd gen you could end up with a heck of a lot more problems, its the luck of the draw.

Airbags rear. Wheels. Roof rack Armor lid.Lightbars and bull bar.battery bank and 2nd inverter.geo fence and tracker.

    I own a 2012 TRD DC.
    Since 12-15k. Bought In 12/13.
I drive 5k miles/monthly. All over the puget sound area. It still runs great, the engine is a wee bit louder but still strong as it ever was@ 231k.

    Heres my maintenance list:
    All fluids at intervals.
Rotors and pads front - 3xs including next week new set.
    Rear drums and shoes/hardware. 2x's
Both front hubs. Passenger front 2x...(failed part)
    Passenger cv axle 1x.
New tire rubber 4x....first doesnt count...upgraded those.
    New cabin fan.
About to do the 5th sparkplug change.
    PCV valve.
Headlight bulbs...changed 3x...finally just bought HID 2yrs ago...saved me lots of cash.
    Front shocks,rear shocks 1x each.
    1 battery

Probably gonna do the timing chain this year at some point.

Thats not much for the abuse...Seattle streets are horrible...like trail driving....no exagerration..not 4x4...but crappy potholed trail driving.

I also D&Fill the Tranny 2x...even if its lifetime fluid..I dont like the idea.

    And I need a new winshield...but meh...someday.
Crack is under passenger los...so pfffffff.

Considering the reliability....Im keeping this one.
100k is literally nuthin on these Tacos
Oh and......still running original serpentine belt:rofl:

Im interested to see how long it takes...I dont think its gonna snap...but it should start slippin soon.
