I spotted this beautiful 1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II parked near my work today...

I showed these pictures to this guy I know from Hong Kong and he identified this car as being Silver Sand over Chestnut (exterior) with beige hide piped chocolate. The tires are horribly incorrect, but other than that, this is a fine example of a late SY car!

I saw this parked outside a muffler shop on my way to work the other day...

It's a Bentley Arnage Red Label!

I bought this 1978 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II brochure (scroll down) at the from a vendor at the Carlisle Truck Nationals, along with several other Rolls-Royce and Bentley brochures and a few Toyota and Chevrolet brochures.

One thing you immediately notice about this brochure is that the featured car has yellow headlight lenses.

I asked my friend from Hong Kong why the car has yellow lights. He told me this particular car is of French specification.

I immediately consulted the almighty Google and found out something interesting...

    From THIS WEBSITE:

"Until 1993 all cars in France were required to have yellow headlights. This tradition started during World War II so that the French civilian cars would stand out form enemy vehicles. The Government enacted a law on the 3rd of November, 1936 stating that all vehicles put into production in 1937 are required to have yellow headlights. The French being who they are, didn't abandon these headlights until 1993 when forced by the European Unions conformity standards. Today, it is illegal to drive in France with yellow headlights unless your car was first registered before 1993."

They made a rally car that looked like one of these, except it was actually good...

I think a Yugo GV is worse than a Renault Le Car!

I worked at the same place with a couple girls that were Sisters that bought a Yugo new, it was constantly broken but I don't recall it being a French vehicle.

What does being French have to do with it. Yugos were made, as the name implies, in Yugoslavia...

Those Sisters with the Yugo didn't keep it very long, I can remember it breaking down within the first month of ownership.

My parents never had a vehicle that was even remotely unreliable, but my in June 1993, the air-conditioner my dad's brand new Chevy S-10 Blazer failed a week after he bought it. Actually, failed is an understatement...

The system blew a seal at the orifice tube, and when my dad turned on the A/C after starting the engine, it expelled almost an entire A/C system worth of R-12 into the cabin of the Blazer through the defogger vents on top of the dash. I say again, the Blazer was a week old and had 260 miles on the clock. My dad took it to the dealer in the morning, where the necessary repairs were made under warranty, and he got it back with cold A/C that afternoon. However, the A/C blew a seal again in May 1994. This time my dad didn't get a face full of Freon (as it leaked out while the Blazer was parked). Once again, my dad took it to the dealer and it was repaired under warranty. We had the Blazer for another two years after that, and the A/C worked fine for those two years...

    @shakerhood

The 1993 S-10 Blazer was never unreliable. The 4.3L Vortec is virtually indestructible. However, the front and rear brakes (front disc/rear drum) wore out at 28K miles; the tailgate was installed incorrectly at the factory and my dad took it back to the dealer at least two times for a squeaking noise that drove him crazy; the clearcoat peeled off the aluminum rims and Chevy gave him a new set under warranty; the entire gauge cluster burned out at least once; The Blazer holds the distinction of being the only vehicle we had since 1989 that had a headlight burn out.

Wow that's crazy that it emptied Freon into the cabin like that! My Mom had a Buick in the 80s and bought a 75K extended GM Warranty, the transmission blew up at 74998 or 74999. GM really gave her a hard time about it but eventually did cover it.

We had a 2000 GMC Safari that had A/C problems (among other things as well). We traded the '93 Blazer for a new Nissan Pathfinder in 1996, and the Safari for a new Honda Odyssey in 2004. It took 14 years before my dad bought another GM product, or ANY American vehicle for that matter. From 2004 to 2014, he bought three Hondas, an Acura, a BMW, a Nissan, and a Toyota, but no American vehicles. He test drove the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon, loved both of them, and traded his 2013 Honda Pilot Touring for a 2018 GMC Yukon SLT last November. He loves it!

My dad also had serious reservations about buying a GM product after GM took the government bailout money in 2009...

Yugos were a licensed Fiat 127 with some minor changes for the eastern-bloc market. Italian, French, or Yugosav engineered, poor quality and reliability is built right into the product! Even American Motors managed to match the French in break-downs and repairs when they started building Renaults in Kenosha back in the 80's.

I remember a lot of yellow fog lights when I was in Germany back in 1985 and 1990.
