I did, but I don't buy my trucks based on their steering wheel buttons. If that was the case, I would have ended up with a Canyon and nobody wants that.

I guess I'm the only shmuck who uses the knob for volume control lol. Button orientation makes sense to me, use up to move up a radio preset and down to move down a station. Of course it's also my first vehicle with steering wheel controls.

Must be the only shmuck listening to the radio too

I think anyone who drives other cars is probably used to the logical orientation of volume one the Y axis, and skip/next/FF buttons on the X axis. It seems to be industry standard. And how 8lb 6oz newborn baby Jebus intended it to be.

Only here would you find people willing to take apart the PCB, solder wires, etc. Just to change the orientation of a push button. Lol, I love this forum, yall are crazy. Just like me!

He asked for ideas, didnt say they had to be easy. Fwiw I take apart my switches to change out the led resistors too. I want them visible but only just, the overhead lighting is another story.

If he uses other devices like an ipod which has volume top/bottom and track left/right it will remain an irritation. Some of us are just looking for an excuse to dig in and poke around.

My solution is he loosens the steering wheel, rotates it a quarter turn, and all is well with the world.

I bought Hondo knobs for a reason...

They got it right on the Abarth I used to have. The volume and track buttons were on the back of the wheel. Track on one hand and volume on the other.

This used to drive me insane, because my old car was set up to your preference, but I got used to it and now it's normal to me.

I recently was in a rental 2018 corolla and the volume was up/down, opposite of 2016 Tacoma. It drove me nuts but I thought it was interesting they changed it. Maybe there are parts there to make a change possible?

I'm finally used to it. I think Toyota's logic is due to the display. The volume bar on the screen goes left and right when increasing or decreasing volume and the station list is up and down. However, I totally agree, it took me several months to get used to.

Makes perfect sense to me.... look at the unit, volume goes side to side and tracks are up and down. Now really, how hard is that?

So...I've got 5K miles on my truck....I still can't get used to the volume being left and right....in a pushbutton world volume is always up and down. IMHO. I'd love to change this if someone smarter than me can figure it out.

So I figure it this way....if you ever had a car with a radio where you rotated a dial and the tuner “needle” travelled horizontally across the numbered glass face of the radio...you would believe that tuning stations is a left/right process. Most people here have probably never even seen a radio like this in a vehicle. I’m old enough to have had more than one.
