I was searching the forums for info on the Laural Lakes trail and I came across this thread. I'll be in Mammoth from 7/20 though 7/28, I would love to join you guys for a day either weekend. I have the cheaper Baofeng radio and I'll contact you guys on the radio when I can break free from my family and friends. Is anyone staying for the whole week or just the weekend?

FYI. The $62 Baofeng radio is on sale right now for Prime Day. $40 is a good deal.

If you fish Laurel remember its catch and release and barbless no bait fishing. early morning lures work well like dawn but most of my luck has been from flys, very tough fishing but if you manage a fish it could a trophy golden so please be gentle as you release those fish. Its a very special lake, that myself and friends try to take care of so i wish you the best of luck and please respect those fish and they are one of a kind for this area.

lake mary, george, mamie, and twin lakes all get stocked 2x a week, once from dfg and once from a private hatchery with big trout. thos lakes like most are general regs which is a 5 fish limit, no minimum size and bait and anything goes.

Are you going by yourself? Where are you headed, if you don't mind me asking?

My gf and I practice a 5 fish limit for the whole trip, enough for 2 meals for the family. I'm not a big fisherman and I learned last year I really like using wooly buggers with a bubble on a spin rod. LOL. It works for me. I never have any luck at lake mary, george, mamie or twin lakes, no bites. I've caught a trout in horseshoe 6-7 years ago. A local was surprised and advised us of the conditions of the lake. We released the fish and called it a day. The only place that works for us is North lake in Bishop. We usually get our license's at Rick's. Thanks for the advice on Laurel.

Thanks. I'm always looking for new places to backpack. I haven't been in that area, so I'll very interested in your trip report if you make into camp on Saturday night.

Looks like someone was trying to join the club. Happened next to my work. A Tacoma would have made it.
