I've owned Yotas since 1995,loved them all,BUT having said that,I have a 15 Double cab short bed SR5 V6,Auto, Best,Best one Yet,Actually just came back from a Camping trip, On the interstate doing 70-75 (Posted) wife turns to me and says"This truck is so smooth and quite,Dont you dare sell it." REALLY ! That made my day, plus its fantastic on the beach and the woods in the Fall. I Like the power the engine makes, No Lag,hit the pedal,Powers there.

I have a 12, which is the transition year to the "newer body style" and some other options on the inside, we got cool stuff like a normal looking radio minus all the silver in the previous generations and its blue tooth, upgrade to the entune style touch screen radio, sweet multi functional mirror (home link, compass, temp, camera) Back up camera in mirror sucks though, extra set of bed pocket storage. Practically no TSB's apply to the 12 for some odd reason, even though I swear some of the stuff that applied to the 11's and prior still apply to the 12's depending on how early it was built.

I would go with the 13+ upgraded radio/entune was standard in the 13's, "brown" interior came back in 13 even though the rest of the interior is grey.. Main reason I say 13+ is by then all the bugs from the previous years had been worked out (for the most part) by 13, and it has the upgraded radio package and steering wheel controls.

I'd say 13+. Some 12's having issues with purge valve, though there is a tsb and warranty extension on some models in that year..
13's came with compass and temp in mirror which I like.

And to the second gen owners constantly ragging on the 3rd gen, you guys need to get a life.

I've owner 8 Tacomas over my lifetime......an 04 DC TRD OR 2wd, a 2008 DC TRD OR 2wd, a 2011 DC TRD OR 2wd, a 2015 DC TRD OR 2wd, a 2017 DC TRD OR 2wd, another 2004 TRD OR 2wd, a 1998 extra cab 2wd and what I own now which is a 2015 DC TRD PRO 4x4 and my current truck is the best Tacoma I've ever owned hands down!!

The first gen are nice and I like the true compact size and bullet proof engine but no Nav, back up camera or updated stereo...….the 2017 felt like it had zero power and shifted all the time...….

the 2015 has all the bugs worked out and the last year of the bullet proof 4.0L motor!

I have a 2015 and the only expense I seem to have is when I get on TW and read about things I never knew I needed.

have a 2011...between some cosmetic changes I can't tell the difference. I love my honeycomb grill, tinted black headlights, and tinted black tail lights.

bought a 2007 SR5 4.0L auto brand new, its up past 250K mi. retired it to the farm in 2016 where it still dose daily duty. for me it has been the most reliable truck I have ever owned.
that is what caused me to buy a new 2016 TRD Sport.

    Too few to list.
What's the best year for the 2nd Gen?

2005-06 has had some issues with head gasket
2008 was the last year for the mechanical LSD
2009 was the beginning of A-Trac on OR models
2011 has a 1 year grill design, last year of the front end before redesign, and most importantly, last year before having air pump
2012 has start up only cycle of the air pump, exterior and interior changes
2013-2015 has start up and shut down cycle of the air pump
minor interior changes between 12-15 like clock and compass rear view mirror

If I had to pick, 2011 before the air pump though people will be biased towards what year they have.

2008. Has a nice retro look but is still modern-looking. The interior however, feels somewhat dated but that’s what I kinda love about it.
