In black and white, is the stock fuel pump enough for our supercharged 1grfe with or without any smaller pulley?
Stictly talking 2nd gen tacoma here

Im not great at math and Im no brain scientist or rocket surgeon, so I am honestly asking for some help here.

Heres the part for our trucks yes?

    does this help?

The stock pump is fine for the TRD supercharger on the 4.0L Tacoma.

The problem is the fuel filter. It starts to clog up and restrict fuel flow around 30,000 miles or so. That will cause the engine to lean out in boost and you can fail the engine.

This happened in my 05 Tacoma with the URD Mk1 supercharger kit at 30,000 miles. Started dropping fuel presser badly. I replaced the entire tank unit from Toyota and it was over $600. 30,000 miles later, same damn thing happened. That is when I developed the URD Pump/Filter upgrade kit and that has solved the problem. You now have a very easy to replace fuel filter that is outside the tank and just plan on changing it every 30,000 miles and you will be fine.

URD works very hard to keep the cost of that upgrade very low so as many people can do it as possible so their engines can live long. We include this kit in all the supercharger kit we make, it is that important.

That's insane. Never seen a fuel filter clog enough to lean out and that's even on e85 that clogs everything. Crazy. Must be a very good filter Toyota made.

Well, keep in mind you are trying to get 100 more HP through there than it was designed to flow.

The fact that the supercharger is added as an afterthought to a fuel system initially designed for a vehicle that is expected to run it's intended life in purely NA configuration would make me tell you absolutely not despite the fact that the GPH/ LPH would be okay.

Remember there is a lot of pressure being applied to the fuel system the moment you start boosting and pumps that are just "good enough" to run a supercharged vehicle makes me feel very strongly against them.

Take my two cents as you may. Others may feel differently about it.

Also keep in mind if you are on the TRD tune and are running the fpr mod, the fuel pump has to provide the correct flow at a pressure above the stock 43.5psi. So if you have say 10lbs of boost the pump has to provide flow at 53.5psi so there is more demand on the pump.

My personal experience lines up with what Gadget said. I had my supercharger installed with less than 5k kilometres on the odometer and I’m just rolling over 45k now. I had weird drops in power when trying to hit wide open throttle on my truck. Luckily I had the URD kit lying around from an impulse purchase and installed it myself. My issues with the truck going full potato seem to be gone.

I will add my personal feeling is that the Toyota built in filter can’t handle the debree that enters the tank from fueling in the middle of no where from Jerry cans. If you off-road or overland your Tacoma and have the supercharger I’m guessing this issue comes up more often than not. Most people probably just dismiss it as power loss due to age or wear.
